A clever piece of fan art recreates a famous scene from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors with Family Guy characters. By the time Family Guy started airing in 1999, Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger had already become a household name. After appearing in Wes Craven’s 1984 movie A Nightmare on Elm Street, Freddy quickly became one of the biggest icons of the horror genre, with multiple films and TV shows mentioning or even parodying the events of the movies.

All seven original Nightmare on Elm Street movies came out before Family Guy’s debut, and 2022 marks the 35th anniversary for the third installment, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Along with being considered the fan favorite of the franchise, Dream Warriors is notable for its unique and often gory Freddy kills. One of the movie’s infamous deaths occurs in the TV room at Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital. Jennifer (Penelope Sudrow) is trying to stay awake by watching TV and burning herself with cigarettes, but she eventually succumbs to sleep and dreams about Freddy killing Zsa Zsa Gabor. Thinking she has woken up, Jennifer approaches the TV as a mechanical Freddy lifts her into the air and says, “welcome to prime time b*tch” before smashing her into the screen.

kickpunch.se has recreated this iconic scene in cartoon form using characters from Family Guy. This unique crossover idea shows Stewie as Freddy killing Lois by pulling her through the family’s TV set. The artist even cleverly titles the artwork “Nightmare on Spooner Street.” kickpunch.se's original post can be seen below:

Family Guy is known for its movie and TV show parodies, with Fox even making three Family Guy Star Wars movies. Hundreds of titles have been parodied or referenced on Family Guy, and with Nightmare on Elm Street being a well-established horror franchise, it shouldn’t be surprising that Freddy has appeared on the show. Although not voiced by Englund, Freddy appears in season 8 episode 19, “The Splendid Source,” when Quagmire hires Freddy to tell Peter a dirty joke so Peter poops his pants while he’s sleeping. Tom Tucker even jokes in season 9 that he auditioned to play Freddy Krueger but James Woods convinced him not to pursue the role.

Combining cartoons with horror is a clever idea for fan art, but this does actually seem like the type of dark humor Seth McFarlane would include in Family Guy. The animated series has made it well known that Stewie Griffin hates his mother by including storylines of the toddler plotting to kill her and humorously failing in his attempts. While it seems incredibly unlikely Family Guy will ever make a full-on movie parody of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 as they did with Star Wars, this artwork could be the perfect idea for one of the show’s cutaway gags.
