A shared world survival crafting game from Inflexion Games, titled Nightingale, has been announced during The Game Awards 2021. The indie studio is run by Aaryn Flynn, who previously worked on classic BioWare games such as Mass Effect 3 and Anthem, and who is joined by many other ex-BioWare developers. While BioWare recently teased Mass Effect 4 as a continuation of the epic sci-fi saga, Flynn has now brought Nightingale to life while serving as the CEO of Inflexion Games.

Despite forging some of the gaming industry's most beloved franchises, BioWare has lost several key developers over the last several years. After an adventure to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, BioWare kicked off an original cosmic quest in 2007's Mass Effect. The grand space adventure was followed by two sequels, with gamers carrying over their save files to produce a massive and cohesive storyline where their choices have an impact. Meanwhile, the Dragon Age series brought players to a grim fantasy world as they fought off an invasion from the demonic Darkspawn. However, 2019's Anthem was heavily criticized upon release, and Anthem's director left BioWare in March 2021 as part of a long series of departures.

Announced by Inflexion Games during The Game Awards, Nightingale will take players to a shared-world labyrinth where players must explore and survive in a hostile environment. As Inflexion Games' first title, the game will include a wide variety of open-world realms to explore and multiple tools and weapons to craft. Nightingale's shared-world structure will allow gamers to either play solo or form a group, with cooperative groups able to overcome obstacles together. The ambitious fantasy title will receive an early access PC release in 2022, with playtests set to begin in the coming months.

While multiple ex-BioWare developers pour their talents into the development of Nightingale, the renowned role-playing game studio continues to expand its popular franchises. The developer recently teased progress on Dragon Age 4, with new information about the next entry in the fantasy series set to be revealed next year. The franchise's previous installment, Dragon Age: Inquisition, launched in 2014 and brought with it innovations in character creation and combat. The next part of the epic adventure promises to continue the series' ongoing narrative, with the character of Solas returning as the godly deity the Dread Wolf.

Nightingale looks to take full advantage of its BioWare heritage, presenting players with an expansive and unique new world to explore. However, the title's shared world and survival crafting mechanics promise to provide a fresh experience as players team up and interact directly with the game's environments. With BioWare General Manager Aaryn Flynn leading the ambitious new project, the announcement of Nightingale at The Game Awards 2021 will no doubt thrill fans of both multiplayer role-playing games and in-depth survival titles.
