Nightbooks is a new Netflix movie about a witch (Krysten Ritter) who kidnaps a budding writer named Alex (Winslow Fegley) and demands him to tell her stories each night if he wants to stay alive. With the help of another of the witch's captives, Yasmine (Lidya Jewett), Alex must embrace his spooky storytelling ability in order to escape the witch's grasp. The film, based on the J.A. White book of the same name, premieres on Netflix on September 15.

Screen Rant spoke to Ferley and Jewett about hidden talents, pulling on set pranks, and what it's like to star in a scary movie.

Screen Rant: What I love about this movie is the lesson that it really tells you to embrace what makes you unique. So, I want to know from you guys, what's something unique about you that people might not know when they meet you? Winslow, do you have something that comes to mind?

Winslow Fegley: I took break dancing for five years.

You did?

Winslow Fegley: Yeah. So I did that, and I am obsessed with horror, and I do painting. I sell my paintings, and I do painting.

That's cool. Lydia, did you get to see Winslow breakdance at all?

Lidya Jewett: I didn't. I really wish I would have because that would have been so amazing. I think for me, I don't know, there's not really too much that I do. I'm a really avid reader, and I love reading. I feel like I can kind of spew out facts, just spew out quotes or anything from some books and people are like, "Hmm, that's interesting." But, yeah, I think that's mine.

I love that. This is the perfect movie for you. You two got to spend a lot of time filming together. So, I'm going to ask you a few, "Who's more likely to questions." So Winslow, I know you said you like horror, so who is more likely between you two to cover their eyes during a scary movie?

Winslow Fegley: Lydia.

Lidya Jewett: Me.

Alex hides from Natacha in Nightbooks

I think it's funny, I talk to a lot of people who do horror movies and a lot of the actors are always like, "I don't like watching them, but I like being in them." Is that you?

Lidya Jewett: This is the scariest movie that I've been in. Don't tell anyone. I think for me it was really fun because now that I've watched the movie and I've seen that [it's] super different than what it was on the actual day. And so, I feel like if I were in a true horror movie with gore and all that, I feel like it'd be cool to see if we're laughing on set while we're supposed to be killing someone in the scene. I think it's really good to know that it's all fake.

Who's more likely to laugh or break during a scene?

Lidya Jewett: Winslow. I think we're both able to do that, but I think he did that more.

Winslow Fegley: Yeah, a couple of times. It's funny...

Lidya Jewett: There were some funny things.

Winslow Fegley: I think really stupid little things are really funny. Like, little ways people act because I like to just watch somebody. And then once I learn something about the person, like a habit or something, it just makes me laugh.

I love that. So this might be the same answer then, who's most likely to pull a prank on their costar.

Winslow Fegley: Me, I did.

What's the prank?

Lidya Jewett: He did it so many times.

Winslow Fegley: I would just hide and then just... scare her-

Lidya Jewett: ... jump out at me.

Winslow Fegley: And she tried, she did try, but she-

Lidya Jewett: Tried so hard.

Winslow Fegley: She never scared me.

Lidya Jewett: No I didn't, sadly.

Winslow Fegley: I was pretty good at scaring her. I did it multiple times.
