Warning: Major Spoilers For Night Teeth

Netflix’s vampire thriller Night Teeth features a twist ending that seemingly sets up a sequel, but what happens in the movie's finale? Night Teeth is the latest horror offering from Netflix, and viewers expecting more no-holds-barred genre fare from the platform are in for a surprise. After the brutality of No One Gets Out Alive, Night Teeth is a surprisingly fun horror-comedy that focuses on action and thrills more than gore or suspense.

That being said, Night Teeth’s ending still packs a punch, despite its comparatively light tone. By the time it comes to a close, many of its main characters are dead (or undead), meaning its balance between horror and comedy ends up leaning toward the former. Despite all the death and destruction, Night Teeth’s ending is still relatively optimistic and does seemingly set up a potential sequel.

Night Teeth’s plot centers around Benny, a likable slacker who moonlights as a limo driver. On a long night that Night Teeth’s action takes place over, he picks up a pair of party girls who soon turn out to be hiding a dark secret. Early on, Night Teeth plays out like a limo-bound remix of the Keanu Reeves horror Knock Knock, as the initially enamored Benny becomes more and more unnerved by the creepy flirtations of his seductive passengers. However, the story takes a sharp left turn into genre territory as the duo - Debby Ryan’s Blaire and Lucy Fry’s Zoe 0 are revealed to be vampires who have lived off humans for centuries. In an unusual twist on vampire lore, Night Teeth’s vampires only feed on consenting humans and manage to hide their true selves as a result, but this pair and their boss, Alfie Allen’s creepy Victor, intend to soon change this.

Blaire and Zoe soon reveal that they, under Victor’s instruction, are attempting to break a centuries-old understanding between humans and vampires by wreaking havoc while allowing their boss to slaughter the rest of LA’s prominent vampires in the ensuing mayhem. Meanwhile, like the heroes of earlier vampire stories Midnight Mass and Salem’s Lot, Benny is revealed to have a secret connection to the villains. He is only chauffering Blaire and Zoe around the city to fill in for his missing brother Jay, who Victor has kidnapped. Jay is a vampire hunter intent on killing Blaire, Zoe and Victor - which is complicated by Benny’s burgeoning romance with Blaire. In Night Teeth’s closing scenes, Benny frees Jay who, in turn, kills Victor by tackling him into the sunlight. The same rays also kill Zoe and Blaire saves a badly-wounded Benny from death by turning him into a vampire like herself.

What Was Blaire and Zoe’s Night Teeth Plan?

Blaire and Zoe planned to cause so much havoc throughout L.A. that Victor could kill his fellow prominent vampires, vampire hunters and assorted peacekeepers without arousing suspicion. Like The Vampire Diaries spinoff Legacies, Night Teeth has a lot of complicated lore to unpack. The basic gist is that humans hunt vampires who step out of line and feed off unwilling victims, vampires police their own kind and ensure the bloodthirsty likes of Victor never gain too much power and prominent bloodsuckers like Victor pay off, bribe and threaten humans and vampires alike to cause an all-out war. Blaire and Zoe’s role was to act as a distraction stopping Victor’s murders from being uncovered. While the duo cause mayhem across the city, Victor quietly annihilates his competition to facilitate his own rise to power.

Did Victor’s Plan Succeed?

Although he dies in Night Teeth’s ending, Victor essentially ends up victorious. Somewhat like Michael Myers in Halloween Kills, the villain's evil deeds pan out pretty much as he hoped, but it proves a pyrrhic victory. Night Teeth’s antagonist is killed by his own captive Jay before he can make use of the vampire hierarchy power vacuum that his killings have caused. Victor intended to use the cover of Zoe and Blaire’s mayhem to establish himself as the new leader of the pack, but while he does manage to kill many of his competitors, he never gets to enjoy the fruit of his labors. Ironically, it is likely Benny who benefits most from Victor’s plan, as he and Victor’s former lackey Blaire are seen together in the final scene, while Benny may have turned to the dark side.

How Night Teeth’s Ending Sets Up A Sequel

Although Zoe is killed in a Midnight Mass-style CGI-assisted blaze of glory, Blaire not only survives Night Teeth’s ending but manages to save Benny’s life by turning him into a vampire. Benny makes peace with Jay and promises to assist his vampire hunting brother in keeping the peace between human and vampire populations. He is later seen looking longingly at his old friends, and for a moment, Night Teeth's ending implies he may miss his life as a human. However, when Blaire pulls up in a flashy car and the pair are revealed to be a couple, it is clear Benny is satisfied with life as a vampire. He then offers his former friends a ride, and Night Teeth’s ending leaves some important questions ambiguous. Do Benny and Blaire intend to feed on these characters with their consent, or are they continuing Victor’s violent upending of the human-vampire truce? Do Benny’s friends take the ride, prompting another horror movie's beginning, and if so, what does their introduction to the city's underworld look like?

The Real Meaning of Night Teeth’s Ending

While on its surface Night Teeth is a lightweight horror-comedy, Netflix’s latest horror has some interesting themes. Like many recent releases from Squid Game to Parasite, Night Teeth uses genre elements to make a metaphorical commentary on social inequality. While Blaire and Zoe enjoy their crime spree, neither realize until their actions are manipulated by forces more powerful than them and their choices are not their own. Similarly, Benny and Jay's thankless work as drivers means the pair are stuck serving the powerful and facilitating their hedonism while struggling to get by themselves. Thus, the ambiguous ending of Night Teeth asks viewers whether Benny and Blaire will improve the power imbalance between humans and vampires, or continue to perpetuate the same parasitic system and just replace Victor as the villains.
