Nicolas Cage has revealed that he wants to star alongside Kermit and Miss Piggy in a Muppets movie. The actor is a beloved Hollywood veteran known for his eccentric personality and intense performances. His latest film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, co-starring Pedro Pascal, debuts in theaters later this month on April 22.

Over the course of his career in Hollywood, Cage has made a name for himself as a talented and diverse character actor. He has starred in comedies such as Raising Arizona, romantic films such as Peggy Sue Got Married, and action thrillers like The Rock and Con Air. The last few years have somewhat of a Renaissance for Cage’s film output, as he has delivered highly praised turns in films like Mandy and Pig. His latest film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, takes a meta look at Cage’s career, with the actor playing a fictionalized version of himself who is hired to attend the birthday of a wealthy fan (Pascal).

While promoting the release of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Cage recently participated in a Twitter Movies Q&A to respond to numerous fan comments and questions. One user proposed the idea of Cage remaking his 1996 movie The Rock (which saw Cage infiltrate Alcatraz to take down a rogue platoon of marines), but a version that replaced all of the other actors in the movie with Muppets, except for Cage. The actor responded positively to the idea, confirming that he would "love to be" in a Muppet movie. Check out the video below.

The Muppets are puppet-focused variety show created by the late Jim Henson that has remained a touchstone of pop culture ever since The Muppet Show first debuted in the 1970s. Like countless others, Cage seems to be a major fan of The Muppets. In his remarks, the actor posits that he and the iconic green frog Kermit could be "best friends" if they ever made a movie together, while also admitting he "has always had a crush on Miss Piggy."

Like Cage, The Muppets are having a moment in pop culture right now. Between the recent release of Muppets Haunted Mansion on Disney+ for last year's Halloween season and the recent announcement of a new Muppets series that will focus on The Electric Mayhem, Disney has plenty of Muppet content in the pipeline. The Muppets were also suggested by some as a possible host for the 2022 Oscar ceremony, further solidifying the fact that there will always be room in audiences hearts for Henson's beloved puppets. A Nicolas Cage and The Muppets movie crossover would certainly be a bizarre spectacle, but no doubt the ever-committed actor would make it one for the film history books.
