In doing the rounds and promoting the upcoming comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Nicolas Cage revealed that he would love to make Face/Off 2. Cage's stance on the hypothetical sequel has gotten fans so excited, but there are so many other movies in the eccentric actor's filmography that should get the sequel treatment too.

Cage clearly isn't one for sequels, as he's only made a couple of them in his seasoned 40-year career, but so many of his films leave open the opportunity for a follow-up and have so much potential. As audiences are enjoying somewhat of a Cage renaissance, as Massive Talent is getting him the best reviews of his career, now is a better time than ever for a sequel or two to his best movies.

Face/Off (1997)

Available To Rent On Amazon

Nicolas Cage with golden gun in Face Off

Face/Off is one of the first movies that saw Cage deliver a performance as eccentric as 1988's Vampire's Kiss on such a large scale. The movie has been memed to death, but behind all the internet jokes is a jaw-dropping John Woo-directed action movie with such a unique premise.

The film follows an FBI agent who switches faces with a criminal mastermind to infiltrate the criminal underworld. And with a box office intake of almost $250 million, it proved that Cage's more peculiar performances in blockbuster movies surprisingly work. And in an epic Reddit AMA, Cage actually revealed that he would be willing to reprise his role for Face/Off 2 with a straight-up "yes."

Con Air (1997)

Available To Stream On Prime Video

Cage had an incredible 1997, as along with Face/Off, the actor led another bonkers big blockbuster action movie, Con Air. The movie had just as much of a ridiculous premise as the face-switching movie, as it follows a group of convicts being transported to a different prison by plane. The actor plays Cameron Poe, and his performance is equal parts melodramatic and over-the-top heroic.

The 1997 movie doesn't exactly call for a sequel, as Poe's story arc is perfectly wrapped up with him reuniting with his family. However, though most of the inmates are apprehended by the time the credits roll, serial killer Garland Greene escapes, and a sequel could see Poe being recruited to track down the "Marietta Mangler."

Snake Eyes (1998)

Available To Stream On Fubo

The Brian DePalma-directed Snake Eyes is one of the most underrated murder mystery movies ever, as it sees both the actor and director at the top of their games. The thriller is full of minutes-long tracking shots and Cage plays an unpredictable, slobbish detective perfectly.

The movie has similar strands of DNA to Die Hard, as it follows a cop completely out of his element taking on something so much bigger than him. And it should have gone down the same root as the Bruce Willis-starring movie by being the start of a franchise. A Snake Eyes 2 could have seen Rick Santoro (Cage) take on another murder mystery that he must piece together and reunite with Julia.

National Treasure: Book Of Secrets (2007)

Available To Stream On Disney+

The President talks to Ben in National Treasure Book of Secrets

National Treasure 3 has seemingly been in development hell ever since Book of Secrets, as there have been so many updates and broken promises in the past 15 years. The adventure series is so unique in today's cinema landscape, and there aren't any franchises like it, even though Uncharted tried its hardest. Unfortunately, in the same AMA that Cage gave fans hope that a Face/Off 2 could happen, it's bittersweet, as he also shot down the idea of another National Treasure movie.

However, even though it's doubtful that Benjamin Franklin Gates (Cage) will appear, fans of the franchise, in general, do have the Disney+ spin-off show to look forward to. But Cage could be misleading fans by telling them he's done with movies, and as he plays the main character who should return for the Disney+ series, it's possible that the actor could reprise his role in the TV show.

Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance (2012)

Available To Stream On Starz

Nic Cage turns into Ghost Rider in Spirit of Vengeance.

2007's Ghost Rider wasn't anything to write home about, and it was critically scathed and hated by fans. Somehow, Sony didn't learn from the film's reception and reviews, as it doubled down on all of its problems with the sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. However, there's one constant in the series that keeps them from being unwatchable, and that's cage at his most uncaged.

Cage plays Johnny Blaze, who literally turns into a flaming skeleton. With a great script, a decent direction, and enough time and money behind the digital effects, a Ghost Rider threequel with Cage behind the handlebars could be a visual spectacle. But even if that doesn't happen, Cage is rumored to cameo in Doctor Strange 2.

Adaptation (2002)

Available To Stream On HBO Max

Charlie and Donald Kaufman lying in bed in Adaptation

The artistic mid-budget movie Adaptation might not be the first Cage-starring movie that fans think needs a sequel, but Adaptation 2 might work better than any other. The movie, along with being an adaptation of the non-fiction book The Orchid Thief, is a very meta film about Charlie Kaufman (Cage), who is the real-life writer of the 2002 release.

Being notably meta, the follows Charlie struggling to write the very movie that audiences are watching. The film is all about writer's block and how Charlie doesn't want the third act to end in a shoot-out, which is exactly what happens. While there are so many deeper themes to the meta dramedy, a sequel would be so fitting with the theme of Charlie struggling to get onto the same page as the studio, as it could see the studio trying to get him to pen The Orchid Thief 2.

Grindhouse (2007)

Available To Rent On Prime

Women smoke cigars in Werewolf Women of the SS

Grindhouse is a two-film, B-movie-influenced project that was spearheaded by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. But one of the most interesting things about the double bill was the group of fake trailers in between the main features, and one of those fake trailers was the Cage-featuring Werewolf Women of the S.S.

The movie would ordinarily sound ridiculous, but based on some of his 2010s projects, it's a typical-sounding Cage movie, as Werewolf Women is about Hitler's attempt to create a race of superwomen. One of the other fake movie trailers, Machete, was not only made into a feature-length film, but it also got a sequel, and it would have been great to see the Cage-led trailer come to life too.

Gone In 60 Seconds (2000)

Available To Stream On Prime Video

2001's The Fast and the Furious led to a zeitgeist in the 2000s, as it was the start of a huge street racing phenomenon, but the petrolhead action craze started a year earlier with Gone In 60 Seconds. The movie follows a retired master car thief who is forced to steal fifty cars in just one night.

Though the film is one of the lowest-rated Cage movies on Rotten Tomatoes, it has its franchise, and there are even car enthusiasts who have had their Porsche 996s and Ford Shelby GT500s restored to look like the ones in the movie. With the Fast and Furious movies being less and less about cars, there's a demand for racing action movies that no studio is currently supplying, but Gone In 60 Seconds 2 could be that very movie.

Drive Angry (2011)

Available To Stream On Fubo

John Milton walking away from an explosion in Drive Angry.

As casting announcements of upcoming Fast & Furious movies have become like events, and fans have their own opinions on who should be cast in a Fast movie, Cage is at the top of the list. Nobody has a better resume than the eccentric actor, and he's arguably overqualified for the series. Along with Gone In 60 Seconds, Drive Angry is another action movie driven by American muscle.

The movie follows a father who escapes hell and seeks revenge on the people who killed his daughter. The film ends with Milton (Cage) returning to hell, but he threatens to escape again, teasing a sequel. And a sequel was even being developed. According to We Got This Covered, Amber Heard and Cage had agreed to return for a Drive Angry 2.

The Rock (1996)

Available To Stream On Prime Video

Nic Cage holding the flares in The Rock.

The Michael Bay-directed The Rock sees FBI agent Stanley Goodspeed become the unlikely protege of former SAS Captain John Mason, as they attempt to stop terrorists on Alcatraz, and it's one of the very best 90s action movies. But being 26 years old, it might be too little too late if The Rock 2 was released today.

However, Cage is almost the age that John Mason was in the original movie, so it could see Goodspeed acting more like a seasoned, grizzled, and troubled FBI agent, just like how Mason was a seasoned and troubled SAS Captain. On top of that, with Ambulance being something of a return to form for Bay, and with Cage enjoying a renaissance with Pig and Massive Talent, there's no better time for a sequel than now.
