Nicolas Cage has revealed the four directors he’d like to work with in the future. With a filmography extending back to 1982, Cage has had a 40-year-long career which has seen him both win an Academy Award and receive intense criticism for his many flops. The actor’s latest film is the upcoming The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which he portrays a fictionalized version of himself. Co-starring Pedro Pascal, the film is set for a wide theatrical release on April 22.

Over the course of his long and varied career, Cage has worked with some of the best directors in Hollywood, including Spike Jonez, Joel Coen, Werner Herzog, and Francis Ford Coppola. Nevertheless, he is also known for appearing in sub-par direct-to-video releases, as well as bigger budget box office failures like Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Despite his uniquely diverse body of work, the actor maintains a reputation for his commitment to each performance no matter the size or budget of the film, and has been praised recently by some of cinema’s biggest names, with director Guillermo Del Toro describing him as “a master.”

Now, in an AMA on Reddit, Cage has revealed a list of directors he’d like to work with on future projects. The actor named four directors, each with their own reputation for creating great cinema, but in remarkably different ways. That list included: Christopher Nolan, Ari Aster, Robert Eggers, and Spike Lee.

Nicolas Cage Reveals Surprising List Of Directors He Wants To Work With

The actor’s many fans will be eager to imagine what a collaboration between Cage and each of these directors he named would look like, but they might also be surprised. While all four directors have fantastic reputations, they are remarkably different. Nolan’s trademark style is large-scale, grand cinema, with works like InterstellarInception and Tenet, while Aster and Eggers are currently best known for their smaller scale, atmospheric horror films like Hereditary and The Witch, respectively. Spike Lee, on the other hand, is regarded for his direction of features which explore social issues like race relations and class, such as Do The Right Thing and Da 5 Bloods.

Interestingly, Cage chose directors who each have their own distinct styles, and the actor himself is known for his versatility. Undoubtedly, if Cage was to work with any of the directors he cited, the project would be an interesting one. Even if none of the directors decide to take up his offer, however, Nicolas Cage continues to be one of cinema’s hardest working actors, and will no doubt continue to seek out challenging and interesting roles for himself.
