Fans of Nickelodeon cartoons will soon have a racing video game to call their own, as Nickelodeon Kart Racers has now been revealed. The network is home to some of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time, including SpongeBob Squarepants and Rugrats.

Over the years, of course, these classic Nickelodeon shows have amassed a very strong following, and with it comes the possibility to have video game adaptations. Although some of these games have proved to have something of a positive reception from fans, others have not been quite as well received, lacking both the charms of the original shows and the quality required to be a truly top tier video game.

This is a trap that Nickelodeon Kart Racers will be looking to avoid, as at least it's going to be emulating a classic in Mario Kart. The title will allow players to take on the role of characters from the likes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hey Arnold!, and Rugrats as they race around a total of 24 tracks.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers will thankfully include a variety of gameplay modes, including local four-player multiplayer, so it will certainly fit in as a good party game if it resonates with Nickelodeon fans. Although no official release date is confirmed at the moment, the title will release for all major consoles in the holiday season of this year.

The game comes from GameMill Entertainment, who have published video games for every console under the sun but have had a particular focus on third party casual games for Nintendo handheld and home devices. The company also has previous with other cartoon properties, having developed Cartoon Network: Battle Crashers. However, gamers may well be a little bit worried given how poorly that beat 'em up was received by both critics and players when it released in 2016.

Although the concept of the game certainly looks like a whole lot of fun, fans of those brilliant Nickelodeon properties may well be a little cautious for now. After all, licensed games can be very hit and miss to put it mildly, and there's certainly a history of games based on cartoons being a little on the ropey side - GameMill projects included. Hopefully, Nickelodeon Kart Racers will be back to buck the trend and deliver a fun kart racing experience that fans will be hoping for.
