A recent demonstration of one of Reptar's moves from Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl looks incredibly similar to another reptile's fighting style from the Super Smash Bros. franchise. Launching on October 5, this will be the first console version of the Nickelodeon Super Brawl series that started all the way back in 2009. Prior to All-Star Brawl, the series was only available as browser games or on mobile platforms.

Since its announcement, many in the gaming community have understandably compared All-Star Brawl to Super Smash Bros. While there are some notable differences, the concepts are noticeably similar as well as much of the presentation. There are even a few elements that look almost identical between the two franchises, and one connection in particular recently got a spotlight shown on it.

YouTuber Ultima recently pointed out that Reptar's up special, an attack called Jurassic Slam, is extremely similar to Yoshi's from Super Smash Bros. The move has Reptar leap high into the air with a few spins before slamming down into the opponent at a high velocity. Ultima's video has a brief fade transition where the Nickelodeon character's move flows seamlessly into Yoshi's attack, demonstrating just how similar the two attacks appear.

The developers of All-Star Brawl seem to to aware of just how similar some of their game's mechanics are, and have even leaned into the Super Smash Bros. comparisons in some circumstances. Nigel Thornberry's official showcase video, for example, has a direct reference to Captain Falcon's iconic punch during a description of one of the former's moves. It is unclear, however, if it is just a coincidence that the two dinosaurs from both franchises have what is almost the same attack. More similarities will likely be discovered and showcased by the community after the title officially launches in a few days.

Nickelodeon fans have wanted a console title like All-Star Brawl for some time, not necessarily because it would be different mechanically from Super Smash Bros., but because it would allow the massive roster of iconic characters to fight one another in a mainstream video game environment. Nintendo's formula works incredibly well, which is why it is not a bad thing that so much inspiration was taken from Super Smash Bros. for All-Star Brawl. It is also not a direct clone, however, as Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl mechanics will feature some new techniques for players to master. Only time will tell if the first console installment in the Nickelodeon series can compete with the much established and much beloved franchise that is Super Smash Bros.
