The upcoming platform fighting game Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will be getting DLC characters after launch, developer Ludosity has confirmed. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl immediately drew interest after it was announced in July, and it's rapidly built up a following across the internet.

While the Nickeloden crossover fighter is clearly reminiscent of Super Smash Bros., it sets itself apart with rollback netcode and its own nostalgia-fueled roster. Many of the most recognizable Nicktoons icons have already been confirmed as playable fighters, and fans are speculating on what other characters might come to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl next. At the time of writing, there are still a number of notable omissions, although the initial roster has not been filled out yet. Even if certain iconic characters don't make it into the launch version of the game, it seems they'll have a chance to show up in the future.

In an interview with Game Informer, Ludosity CEO Joel Nyström revealed that the developer is planning to release multiple DLC characters for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. When asked about the base roster size and possible DLC plans, Nyström confirmed there will be 20 characters in total at launch with two downloadable characters arriving shortly after. Avatar's Aang and Korra have leaked as part of the release day lineup, so it's doesn't seem probable that they're the two DLC fighters. Nyström also stated that more DLC fighters will be unveiled over time, implying there could be a content roadmap for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl sometime after launch.

The interview also got into some other significant details about the game. According to Nyström, there are no live-action Nickelodeon characters in the base game, and the developer is not considering live-action characters for post-launch inclusions at present. Notably, none of the game's fighters will have any voice acting either (at least for the time being). On the other hand, Nyström did reemphasize the importance of competitive play in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, saying online functionality and modes are a key factor for the team.

With its official release date less than a month away, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will be showing its full host of playable fighters very soon. Ren and Stimpy were just announced as an Ice Climbers-esque tag-team character, but cartoon fans are still clamoring for many other nostalgic favorites. Luckily, the wait won't be much longer to find out if characters like Rocko, Doug, or Angry Beavers Norbert and Dagget have made the cut.
