Alternate character skins, such as the classic black and white comic book design of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Michelangelo, will soon be added to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. The crossover platform fighting game allows players to choose from a large roster of Nicktoon icons such as Spongebob, CatDog, Danny Phantom, and more. While Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has been favorably compared to Super Smash Bros. and other crossover fighting games, the cartoonish title does lack some notable features.

Upon release, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl received praise for its varied line-up of playable characters and its fun platform fighter gameplay. The title includes representatives from iconic Nick series like Spongebob SquarepantsDanny PhantomAvatar: The Last AirbenderInvader Zim, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. However, there are some unusual omissions from the game's cast, with a lack of representatives from Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius turning heads due to the massive popularity of both series. The cartoonish crossover also noticeably lacks any voice acting whatsoever, though some fans believe that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl could add voice acting in a future update. Alternate character costumes, a staple of Super Smash Bros. and its peers, were also noticeably absent from the game upon release.

An announcement from Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, made through Twitter, reveals that alternate costumes will be coming to the game in the near future. Different designs are often included in fighting games, and particularly hectic platform fighters, so that players can choose the same character while still keeping track of themselves on screen. The announcement comes with the reveal of an alternate design for Michelangelo which will pay homage to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' classic black and white comic book appearances. The sharp black lines help to make the pizza-loving warrior highly noticeable, making for a very unique new look. While no release date has been announced, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will apparently add alternate costumes in the very near future.

Crossover platform fighters seem to have become a recent trend, with titles like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and MultiVersus likely trying to fill the void left by the now-complete Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While All-Star Brawl focuses on Nicktoons charactersMultiVersus will pull together a huge variety of properties all owned by Warner Bros. MultiVersus will feature alternate costumes for its multitude of playable characters, who will range from Batman to Scooby Doo's Shaggy to Game of Thrones' Arya Stark. The upcoming game will also have a leg up on Nick's brawler thanks to the inclusion of voice acting for each character, with many characters being portrayed by beloved performers of the past.

While Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was certainly well-received, a lack of certain features made it stand out next to the competition. Thankfully developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs seem committed to updating the game over time, with alternate costumes soon arriving as an entirely free update. This feature will no doubt pay homage to each animated character's varied history, and it will make mirror matches much less confusing as well. With many fans hoping for DLC characters in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, the post-launch addition of new outfits makes that possibility seem a bit more realistic.
