It was recently announced that, on top of all the other Marvel series getting released by Disney+, Samuel L. Jackson will star in a show about Nick Fury for the hot new streamer. In last year’s Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Fury’s role in the MCU expanded significantly after a few years’ absence. The latter ended with a tantalizing post-credits scene revealing that the movie’s Fury was really Talos in disguise.

The real Fury is up in space somewhere, on a command ship full of Skrulls. Where this will go remains to be seen, but this new Disney+ series can start to pay it off.

S.W.O.R.D.

The post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home revealed that Nick Fury hadn’t been in the movie at all. Rather, Talos was disguised as him while he was in outer space on a command ship with a bunch of other Skrulls.

Marvel fans instantly speculated that Fury was setting up S.W.O.R.D. — the intergalactic version of S.H.I.E.L.D. — and it would be great to see Fury’s spin-off series follow up on this.

The Word “Motherf*****”

Nick Fury turns to dust in Avengers Infinity War

This is wishful thinking. There’s no way Disney would allow the word “motherf***er” to appear on its streaming service. But thanks to Quentin Tarantino, Samuel L. Jackson is inextricably attached to that word. It's like music to fans’ ears.

Fury starting to say the word and getting cut off by Thanos’ dusting in Infinity War’s post-credits scene is probably the closest fans will get, but it would be great to hear Jackson drop a hard MF-bomb in this new series.

Captain Marvel

In the ‘90s-set Captain Marvel, Nick Fury developed a strong friendship with Carol Danvers. Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson shared terrific on-screen chemistry, while Fury and Carol turned out to have a lot in common.

Since Fury is in outer space with the Skrulls, it seems like a no-brainer to include Carol in his Disney+ series. It could even set up Captain Marvel 2.

Flashbacks Filling In The Gaps

Before Nick Fury turned to dust in Avengers: Infinity War’s post-credits scene, the last time we saw him, he was hiding out on Hawkeye’s farm. Before that, he faked his death in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and went off the grid. Now he’s in space.

There are a lot of gaps in Fury’s MCU character arc that his Disney+ series needs to fill in. This can be done with flashbacks alongside the present-day storyline.

Agent Hill

Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill

The revelation that Fury was really Talos throughout the whole of Far From Home came with the revelation that Maria Hill was really Soren. Hill is one of the only people Fury trusts, and she was surely not on Earth because he was keeping her close by.

Ever since her introduction in The Avengers, Cobie Smulders has done a fantastic job of playing Hill and she’s always been shortchanged with small roles. In the Nick Fury series, she can finally play a substantial part in an MCU story.

Grounded Spy Stories

Nick Fury in Captain America The Winter Soldier

Emmy nominee Kyle Bradstreet has been tapped to write the Nick Fury series. Bradstreet is a veteran of shows like Mr. Robot and Berlin Station, so he could be envisioning the Fury show as a grounded espionage thriller.

The most exciting spy stories in the MCU, from Captain America: The Winter Soldier to the best story arcs on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., have had a grounded tone.

The Multiverse

Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange

After the fakeout of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the MCU’s Phase Four seems to finally be exploring the multiverse created by the events of Avengers: Endgame, with WandaVision, Loki, and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness all diving into parallel realities.

Since Fury is the one who introduced the notion of a multiverse to the MCU and he’s tasked with protecting the universe from outside threats, his series should involve some multiverse-related antics.

Goose

Nick Fury and Goose in Captain Marvel

In the post-credits scene of Captain Marvel, the Flerken who scratched out Nick Fury’s eye, Goose, is seen spitting up the Tesseract onto his desk. It’s unclear what happened to Goose after the events of Captain Marvel, but she forged a close connection with Fury.

Throughout Captain Marvel, Goose stole every scene she was in. It would be a lot of fun to see Goose again in the Fury series, and might present the opportunity to expand the MCU’s Flerken lore.

Sowing The Seeds For A “Secret Invasion” Movie

Skrulls in Captain Marvel

The MCU’s Skrulls were characterized as misunderstood refugees in Captain Marvel as opposed to their usual characterization as villains in the comics, but Kevin Feige has teased that, like humans, there are good Skrulls and there are bad Skrulls.

Fury is currently working with the good Skrulls, but they could encounter some bad Skrulls and set the stage for a “Secret Invasion” adaptation in the MCU.

Agent Coulson

Agent Coulson finds Thor's hammer in Iron Man 2 movie.

Although the Avengers were never told that Agent Coulson is actually alive after Fury told them he was dead, Fury himself knows that Coulson is alive.

Coulson was conceived as a faceless S.H.I.E.L.D. bureaucrat for Iron Man, but Clark Gregg turned him into a fan favorite. It would be a real treat to see him factor into Nick Fury's Disney+ series.
