The new augmented reality game NFT All Stars allows users to bring their NFTs into the metaverse as 3D avatars. NFTs are often misunderstood, but they have the potential to be used in many practical applications. There are several possibilities for NFTs to intersect with AR and VR in the metaverse.

Interactive virtual experiences often require an avatar to represent the user. Avatars are particularly prominent in multi-user VR experiences and third-person AR scenarios. While Meta is working on scarily realistic VR avatars, many users prefer an avatar that doesn't necessarily resemble their physical appearance.

3D avatars can now be generated in AR from a user's NFT collection in the NFT All Stars game. The AR game was created with the Geenee WebAR Builder and can be used by AR developers as a template to create their own multi-user WebAR experiences. Users can join NFT All Stars online from a desktop or mobile device, choose a username, and select either the 'private' or 'public' game mode. From there, users can choose from a selection of default 3D avatars, or integrate metamask sign-in to play as an avatar from their NFT wallet. The gameplay for NFT All Stars is relatively simple, but it highlights the kind of multi-user AR applications for NFTs that are becoming available and contributing to making the metaverse more immersive.

NFT All Stars showcases the potential for NFT avatars in the metaverse. However, the metamask sign-in NFT integration is currently available only for a limited selection of NFT projects, including Nomad Blvd, Head5, The Sandbox, SupDucks, Nouns, Doodles, and CloneX. Although this feature is not yet available for all NFTs, it is promising that the Geenee WebAR Builder supports this functionality.

This early iteration of NFT All Stars, dubbed 'Level 1' may not hold up as a fully-realized game, but it is effective in showing off what Geenee can do with its WebAR platform. Although the company has not yet announced whether a 'Level 2' is in development, it seems likely that a sequel would continue to expand the ways NFT avatars can interact with one another in AR. Other developers may also use the Geenee WebAR Builder or other similar platforms to create their own unique AR experiences integrating NFT avatars. With several major companies including Meta, Apple, and Snapchat focusing on AR experiences more prominently, there will likely be more ways for users to bring NFTs into augmented reality soon.
