John Boyega addresses rumors that he could be the next James Bond. After the first franchise installment back in the 1960s, Bond has now featured in 25 feature films, most recently played by Daniel Craig. Craig began his tenure as 007 in 2006 with Casino Royale and said goodbye to the role with last year's No Time To Die. In an unprecedented move, the film ended with Craig's Bond definitively dying, putting the future of the franchise very much up in the air.

Boyega, meanwhile, is several years removed from a very different franchise. The British actor rose to fame playing Finn in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Boyega would ultimately reprise his role for both Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 2017 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. Since then, however, the actor has maintained a lower profile, appearing mostly in smaller projects. With rumors swirling around who the next 007 could be, names like Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Henry Cavill are frequently at the top of fans' lists to take on the iconic role. As for whether Boyega would be interested in playing the next Bond, the actor has a fairly definitive response.

In a new interview with Men's Health, Boyega shuts down rumors that he's been contacted to play the role of Bond, but does offer a glimmer of hope to those wanting to see him in the role. After spotting an Aston Martin with a James Bond vanity license plate during his interview, the actor makes clear that, if the franchise's producers wanted him, he'd do it in an instant. Check out Boyega's brief comment below:

“But you know if they give me that call, I’ll be there.”

Interestingly, Boyega's comments about being interested to take on the role of Bond come amidst his other comments stating that he wouldn't join the MCU because Iron Man is too hard to top and he wants to work on smaller indie movies instead. Bond remains one of the biggest and most popular franchises around and it's clear that, for Boyega, 007 is the exception to his otherwise modest career interests at the moment. Although Boyega's Star Wars character was sidelined somewhat in his second and third outing, much to the frustration of fans, the actor has the ability to tackle action-packed roles, making him an interesting choice for the role of Bond.

With No Time To Die marking the definitive end to one era of the iconic British superspy, it's unclear what the next Bond film will look like. Producers have previously stated that Bond 26 will be a total reinvention of the character, although what that actually means remains to be seen. Boyega may not be fan-cast in the role of Bond as often as, say, Cavill or Elba but the actor already has experience being the face of a major franchise and is open to the idea if the producers ever give him a call.
