Actor Jamie Dornan comments on how he feels being considered for the role of James Bond. Dornan is best known for his role as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, as well as a number of other notable roles within the last decade. The Irish-born actor has also appeared in films like Anthropoid, The Siege of Jadotville, Synchronic, and Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar. His latest role was as Pa in Kenneth Branagh's Oscar-winning Belfast.

Daniel Craig just wrapped up his tenure in the role of the iconic British agent 007 with last year's No Time To Die, his fifth and final outing as the character. Before Craig, the role was inhabited by the likes of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan. Rumors have been swirling over who will be cast next ever since Craig announced he'd be leaving the part and his iteration of Bond met his fate in No Time To Die. However, Bond franchise producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have said that a decision on the next James Bond will be made sometime this year, but nothing has been announced as of yet.

While talking to ET Canada, Dornan commented on his casting consideration as James Bond, saying that he thought it was "fun" and "cool" to be on the list. The "list" in question is an unofficial mix of actors that are constantly touted as possibilities. While there's no real frontrunner for the role as of yet, Dornan commented that he felt the names circulating around the role aren't there by accident, as all of the actors on the list are currently starring in notable projects. Read his full quote below.

"It’s fun and it’s a cool thing to be in the mix for that sort of thing. I do think it’s very transparent in terms of if you look at that list, there’s not one person on that list who doesn’t have some content at the moment that’s doing well."

Other actors on the "list" along with Dornan include actors like Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Tom Ellis, Tom Hiddleston, Richard Madden, Dev Patel, and Regé-Jean Page, among many others. If Dornan was to be chosen from this star-studded list, his schedule would certainly make room for appearing in a new Bond film. Dornan is currently appearing in the BBC/HBO Max series The Tourist, which has been renewed for season 2. He is also currently filming the spy thriller Heart of Stone with Gal Gadot, but outside of The Tourist season 2 appears to be production-free for now. Dornan has previously weighed in on the immense legacy left behind by Craig's Bond, saying in a past interview,"Daniel Craig is f**king brilliant, and it changes the whole energy of Bond."

With so many talented actors appearing in speculation about the next James Bond, and no clear frontrunner, it's anyone's guess as to which direction the Bond producers will go. Dornan certainly fits the bill for the role, but he's one of many that could slip on the tux and bring the next Bond to life, so it will ultimately come down to what the producers want for the character in the next decade or so, rather than someone simply having the right make-up for the gig. Whoever lands the role will have big shoes to fill, as it's no small feat to redefine a beloved character like James Bond, one of the most iconic roles in all of cinema.
