Although there are plenty of New Year’s Eve episodes from 90s sitcoms that someone can always rewatch, there seems to be a limited choice when it comes to movies as many of those like to be centered around Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

There are a few New Year’s Eve horror movies that you can try to watch. However, one might not be in the mood for that genre as it's not exactly the ideal holiday movie. However, there are some rom-coms that briefly feature New Year’s Eve and are still available for all to stream. Just check these out:

This classic 90s rom-com features a memorable scene, which takes place during New Year’s Eve. The movie centers on two people who decide to meet after a widowed man’s son calls into a radio show to try to find a partner for his father.

Directed by the late Nora Ephron, the movie focuses on a young widow who finds himself falling for a woman he has never met, with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks cast in the leading roles. According to Variety, Julia Roberts, Kim Basinger, and Dennis Quaid were also attached to the movie.

While You Were Sleeping (1995)

While You Were Sleeping is a romantic comedy that stars Sandra Bullock as a hopeless romantic who gets mistaken for the fiancée of a coma patient, played by Peter Gallagher. The situation gets even more complicated when Bullock’s character finds herself falling for the coma patient’s brother, played by Bill Pullman.

The story takes place during the holiday season, all the way till New Year’s. In one of the most iconic scenes, Bullock and Pullman were seen to slip on the ice a few times. While speaking with the Washington Post, Pullman revealed that they looked quite realistic because “they weren’t staged falls.”

Serendipity (2001)

Set in New York, this 2001 rom-com centers on two people, played by Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack, who meet one night and decide to let destiny determine if they are meant to be together.

This is the part of the storyline that truly appealed to Beckinsale. In an interview with Bustle, the actress had stated how she loved “the sweet and innocent [part of the] relationship” and how it's “all chance and fate.” Aside from Beckinsale and Cusack, the cast also includes John Corbett, Jeremy Piven, and Bridget Moynahan.

In this 2013 movie, Dominic Gleeson plays a man who discovers that the men in his family are capable of traveling through time. Unfortunately, it’s also a time-traveling incident that causes problems for him and his love interest, played by Rachel McAdams.

Interestingly, About Time ended up becoming the last movie that Richard Curtis ever directed, and this was precisely why McAdams wanted to do the movie. While speaking with Collider, she explained, “I’m such a fan of his, and I thought, ‘Well, this might be my only chance.’”

As many know, the movie starts with Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens famously performing a karaoke duet, "Start of Something New," on New Year's Eve. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

When Harry Met Sally is still one of the ultra-sappy 80s romance movies that everyone still loves. It’s also easily the greatest rom-com ever made. Starring Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, the movie explores how a friendship between a man and a woman evolves throughout 12 years.

From humor, romance, and drama, this movie had it all. And if one is wondering where New Year’s Eve fits into all this, then maybe one should watch Crystal’s character deliver that unforgettable speech.

In the end, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie does manage to ring in the new year with a loved one she valued a lot. It really was a movie that shows the true meaning of friendship.

So long as fans are talking about perfect movies to watch on New Year’s, the list is certainly incomplete without the classic movie Bridget Jones’s Diary. Oscar-winning actress Renée Zellweger stars as the titular character, a woman determined to better herself and find love in the New Year.

The par role had particularly challenging for Zellweger because she had to adapt to a British accent for her role. While speaking with Cinema.com, her co-star, Hugh Grant, also remarked that it is “one of the hardest things in the world” to do.
