A recent New World developer update video gives fans a look at the game's upcoming Heart of Madness expansion alongside a 2022 roadmap. Amazon Games' massively multiplayer online role-playing game lets players join an online community of adventurers and explore the ever-expanding world of Aeternum Island. New World's Heart of Madness update was announced earlier in March, with the exciting expansion set to introduce a new storyline, a new weapon, a new expedition and more.

When it first launched in September 2021, New World was met with praise for its intense real-time combat, unique fantasy world and realistic MMORPG systems. The game lets players journey through and colonize Aeternum Island, a fantasy land inspired by the seventeenth-century Americas, while taking part in various quests. Real-time combat and a simulated economy make New World a particularly immersive experience, but various technical issues and design failings led to the gaming losing its playerbase over time. Gamers were frustrated by these shortcomings, even resulting in a petition from New World players asking developers to stream themselves actually playing the unbalanced content they created.

Amazon Games has released a New World update video via YouTube, giving players an in-depth look into the MMORPG's future. The video explores the upcoming Heart of Madness update, set to launch in March, which will introduce the visually stunning Tempest's Heart expedition and the unique strength-based ranged weapon the Blunderbuss. A 2022 New World roadmap looks even further into the game's future, with the summer brining a new expedition and event while autumn introduces a brand-new territory, expedition, weapon and event. Weapon balance changes, social Twitch events and new player support tools are also discussed throughout the extensive March developer update, which can be watched below:

Despite some backlash against New World following its launch, Amazon Games seems determined to improve the fantasy MMORPG experience. A New World update back in February addressed many fan concerns, with the developer pledging to reduce player friction by implementing quality-of-life changes to the game. These updates include a boost to the in-game economy, enhanced player movement and a reduced fast travel cost. Combined with March's Heart of Madness update, these changes will hopefully help New World rebuild its playerbase.

New World presents players with a unique and immersive world to explore, but various issues held the project back from greatness. However, a series of updates coming throughout 2022 are set to make dramatic improvements to Amazon Games' MMORPG. By adding a new expedition and a new weapon, among other exciting additions, the Heart of Madness expansion looks to breathe new life into Aeternum Island.
