In large MMOs like New World, small objectives and singular enemies can be difficult to locate. Trying to minimize a massive overworld into a small map causes miscommunication and can often leave players frustrated. For players who enter New World's First Light area for the first time, the "One Threat at a Time" quest can be a challenge. Boatswain Ambrose isn't necessarily hiding, but players may need to look lower than they think.

New World's "One Threat at a Time" quest is given by Sylvia Oakes in First Light and will first guide players to Nyhart's Anchorage. When they reach the Anchorage, the objective will soon change to defeating the pirate leaders, Quartermaster Zebulon and Boatswain Ambrose. Quartermaster Zebulon is fairly easy to find; the quest marker takes players to his ship, where he's waiting inside. Players should look to reach him first. However, Boatswain Ambrose is much harder to locate, depending on the route players take.

The easiest road to reach Boatswain Ambrose is by approaching the marker from the left. After taking out Zebulon on his massive ship, players should stay on the ground as they walk to Ambrose. They will then be led to an arch with a walkway underneath it. Rather than taking the stairs, they should walk forward to enter the cave where Boatswain Ambrose is found.

New World: How to Find Boatswain Ambrose

Players looking to reach Ambrose another way will find a large set of stairs around the marker's location. They can slowly creep down the stairs and fight or walk past all the enemies. Alternatively, confident players can simply leap down and take the fall damage. Boatswain Ambrose isn't a difficult or boss-level enemy in New World, so players can likely afford to do so.

Once players reach the cave, they'll find Boatswain Ambrose sitting down, or engaged in a fight with other players working on the same quest. The Boatswain Ambrose fight occasionally has a bug causing the enemy not to spawn. If this is the case, players can try resetting the quest, waiting for him to respawn, or logging out and logging back in.

Ambrose is slow but hits hard, so if players are having trouble, they should try and use their ranged weapons. The cave can make this difficult, forcing close-quarter combat, so it will be best to stay along the edges. When players have finally grabbed the kill, they can head back to Sylvia Oakes to turn in the quest and receive their rewards. After navigating the confusing "One Threat at a Time" quest, players are ready to continue exploring New World.
