The main campaign of New World includes multiple world quests and tasks for players to complete, and one of the more difficult is called “Dryad’s Trial of Penance.” The “Dryad’s Trial of Penance” is not a quest itself; it is instead the third step of a larger questline. However, as the last portion of that questline, it is important to know how to defeat the “Dryad’s Trial of Penance.”

As players progress through New World, upgrade their character’s attributes, find and combine new weapons and armor, and complete more quests, their character will reach higher levels. Certain quests are designated for certain level groups, and the quest “Burden of Atonement” is no different. This is the quest that contains the “Dryad’s Trial of Penance” task.

Once players hit level 59, they can pick up the quest “Excising the Blighted Root.” This quest requires players to hunt down Blight monsters and quell the spread of Blight. After completing “Excising the Blighted Root,” players can interact with the NPC named Madilon Langlais in Reekwater Settlement to unlock the level 60 quest “Burden of Atonement.”

Completing The Dryad's Trial Of Penance In New World

Burden of Atonement” consists of three separate tasks: Travel to Fisher’s Glory and make an offering at the Dryad’s altar, place the Dryad’s offering on the Mysterious Altar, and complete the "Dryad’s Trial of Penance." Clearly, the first two steps are just the lead-up to the Trial at the end of the quest. Since "Dryad’s Trial of Penance" requires players to fight mobs of enemies, going into the battle with a strategy is a good course of action.

First, a number of Earthward Sunderers and Earthward Elders appear around the Mysterious Altar once the Dryad’s offering is placed. Players must stave off these enemies to complete the "Dryad’s Trial of Penance." A good strategy is to keep a distance and pick off the Earthward enemies with ranged weapons and attacks.

Next, a Swamp Dryad Creeper tentacle appears and attacks the player. The best strategy is to back up and attack the tentacle with ranged abilities. Dodging the Creeper’s ranged attacks is also easier from a safe distance. After the Swamp Dryad Creeper is defeated, an Earthward Stalker attacks the player. Players should keep the stalker away from the center of the area near the Mysterious Altar to defeat it, since this area is where the final enemy spawns.

The last enemy, Sufferance of the Elders, can be immediately hit with a barrage of ranged attacks if players are a far distance from the center area. They will need to dodge the final enemy’s ranged and charge attacks, and keep hitting it with ranged attacks. Eventually, the Sufferance of the Elders is defeated and the "Dryad’s Trial of Penance" is completed. New World players can fast travel or walk back to Madilon Langlais in Reekwater to claim their reward, which usually includes the Journeyman's Treads armor piece, 3,750 XP, and 157.50 Coin.
