One of the developers at Naughty Dog has given hope for a new Uncharted game, admitting another adventure in the series is entirely possible. The story of treasure-hunting Nathan Drake ended with 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, though the universe continued on with 2017's Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, starring Chloe Frazer. Both games recently came to PS5 in Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, but there's yet to be official confirmation of an all-new game release.

The Uncharted games have been some of PlayStation's most popular, cementing Nathan Drake as one of the classic heroes and mascots of the PS3 and PS4. While the fourth game wrapped up Drake's story nicely, many have been hoping the Uncharted series isn't yet done with. The Lost Legacy, a standalone expansion, wowed fans with its dynamic gameplay and exciting story, with many heralding it as one of the best Uncharted experiences. The Chloe adventure proves there's lots of directions that a new game could take, including adopting Drake's daughter as the new protagonist, and it's hoped Naughty Dog is still planning to launch a new Uncharted game.

In an interview with Games Radar (via VGC), Uncharted: The Lost Legacy creative director Shaun Escayg and game director Kurt Margenau spoke about the upcoming release of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and the future of the franchise. When asked if another Uncharted game is possible, Margenau sparked hoped for fans by replying: "I think we can say for certain that we can never say never." He went on to add: "Yeah. Uncharted is a franchise we love – that the studio loves, I love, and Kurt [Margenau] loves. It’s a world we want to see more of. So I can certainly say that."

Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Review Roundup

Naughty Dog is currently working on the standalone multiplayer for The Last of Us Part 2, as well as an unannounced project. Details on both games are sparse, but it's rumored that a new Uncharted game could be in development, not at the studio itself, but supervised by it. This claim has yet to be confirmed, but with Uncharted being one of the biggest PlayStation brands, it's hard to imagine that Sony wouldn't want to continue its lucrative and popular universe in some form or another.

While Escayg's words are far from confirmation that a new Uncharted game may happen, it's hopeful to know that Naughty Dog developers are just as keen on a new adventure as the series' many fans are. While players patiently wait to hear more on the future of Drake and his friends, the Uncharted movie releases in February, and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection's PC release is due sometime later this year. The collection launches on PS5 tomorrow, January 28.
