Concept art for what appears to be an unannounced Transformers game has surfaced online. Earlier this month, there were rumors of a brand-new AAA title based on the popular franchise, as evidenced by some cutscene footage for a project reportedly titled Transformers Rise. It is said that independent studio Certain Affinity is developing this intriguing new Transformers project, and while the leaked cutscenes have since been taken down, they gave fans an interesting look at a three-way conflict between the heroic Autobots, sinister Decepticons, and a mysterious third faction of nanomachine monsters that threatens Earth and Cybertron alike.

Not too long after the new Transformers game cutscenes were supposedly leaked, fans are getting another clue that the Autobots and Decepticons are about to grace gaming consoles once again. According to TopTierList (via TheGamer), a collection of concept art from a visual designer who claims to be working on an unannounced Transformers game has been shared on the internet. This collection of images features a look at some human soldiers and military vehicles, as well as a battle between the noble Bumblebee and manipulative Starscream. In one of the concept images, Starscream seems to be gaining the upper hand on Bumblebee by channeling Energon, while other pictures show the Autobot trying to evacuate humans while the winged Decepticon goes on a rampage.

Despite the Transformers brand remaining popular as ever, there hasn’t been an official home console Transformers game since 2015’s Transformers: Devastation, and before that the Transfomers Cybertron games. Devastation was developed by Bayonetta’s PlatinumGames and featured a wide range of characters from the classic 1984 Transformers cartoon. However, Transformers: Devastation was met with a lukewarm critical reception and sales figures to match, with many criticizing its short length and repetitive gameplay. Since then, Pokémon GO studio Niantic was once working on a Transformers AR mobile game titled Heavy Metal, but this was later canceled alongside three other projects this summer due to financial issues at the developer.

While the past few years have been dry for Transformers fans when it comes to gaming, the timing could be just right for a brand-new AAA console title staring the fabled Robots in Disguise. Recent licensed offerings like Insomniac's open-world Spider-Man games have performed incredibly well, and Hasbro currently has two new Transformers films in the works. This presents a great opportunity for a new Transformers game, either as the beginning of a fresh continuity or the long-hoped-for follow-up to High Moon’s excellent Transformers game duology.

It bares repeating that the recently leaked Transformers video game concept art hasn’t been officially verified yet, but it does offer an interesting look at what a new AAA Transformers game could look like. It could very well be connected to the leaked cutscene footage from earlier this month, giving fans another hint that the rumored Transformers Rise is in development at Certain Affinity. However, eager players should still take these images with a grain of salt until a more concrete confirmation of a new Transformers game comes.
