As if Wonder Woman 1984 coming to HBO Max in just a few days wasn't enough to satisfy fans of the Princess of Themyscira, DC Comics just announced a brand new series, Sensational Wonder Woman, coming in hot off the movie's heels in January.

The series is being launched to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the iconic character and will feature the work of industry veterans and new creators alike. The weekly, digital-first series will offer standalone story arcs that take place outside of any currently existing continuity, providing longtime fans with fresh, brand new adventures untied to any previous storylines, while also serving as a perfect starting point for any new readers who want to follow the escapades of Diana Prince but don't know where to start.

DC announced that the first issue in the new series, "Forget Me Not: Part 1," will release on participating digital platforms January 6 and hard copies will make their way to book stores on March 2. Recently-announced Harley Quinn writer Stephanie Phillips will pen the first arc alongside Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace artist Meghan Hetrick and colorist Marissa Louise. The story will see Wonder Woman facing off against Doctor Psycho. According to the series' announcement, "during a battle with the villain, Wonder Woman sacrifices herself to stop him, the impact from his psychic blast trapping her in an alternate reality. With the help of guest-star Hawkgirl, Diana must remember who she is before it’s too late." Preview pages released by DC show the title character lying seemingly dead in what appears to be a morgue.

The first issue's main cover will feature art from Yasmine Putri and a variant from EJIKURE will also be available when the book hits store shelves. DC's announcement teased that future stories will feature other longtime Wonder Woman mainstays like Cheetah, Steve Trevor, Hippolyta, Wonder Girl and more. Future entries in the Sensational series will showcase the talents of creators like Colleen Doran, Alyssa Wong, Eleonora Carlini, Mirka Andolfo and Corinna Bechko, though the publisher promises even more talent will be added to the roster down the line.

A founding member of the Justice League, Wonder Woman made her comics debut in 1941 and has been one of DC's legacy characters ever since, considered part of the DC Trinity alongside Batman and Superman. And there's even more excitement coming soon to the world of Wonder Woman, with a new Amazonian, Yara Flor, set to take over the WW mantle in DC's epic line-wide Future State event in early 2021. Apparently there's a lot of faith in this new take on the character, as a new DC series featuring Yara Flor as Wonder Girl is already in the works at CW. It's a good time to be a Wonder Woman fan.
