The upcoming New Pokémon Snap is rebooting the classic franchise for the Nintendo Switch, leaving the limitations of the Nintendo 64 behind. New graphics and better technology will allow New Pokémon Snap to take on a whole new life that the older console couldn't hope to capture. However, fans may still have a while to wait before news of a release date is available.

Currently, there hasn't been much revealed about New Pokémon Snap. Fans don't even know for sure if New Pokémon Snap is a true remake or a full-on reboot. Some elements of the original game, like the ability to search and find Pokémon to take pictures of in the wild, will be included in the updated gameplay. The Nintendo Switch and twenty years of tech advancement leave a lot of room for Pokémon Snap to grow in both game mechanics and graphics. New story content could be a possibility, too, and the game could potentially offer Pokémon from every generation, giving players a much wider variety of Pokémon to find as they explore the game's islands and habitats.

While it would be wonderful to know when Pokémon fans might expect the new game to release for the Switch, it is still marked as "TBD" on the Nintendo eShop. According to the site, players will travel through various habitats, filling their "Photodex" with various species of Pokémon they encounter. Players will also be able to research the Pokémon they find, but how this is done has not yet been explained.

Pokémon Snap Reboot Headed To The Nintendo Switch

Judging from the official teaser images, it appears New Pokémon Snap puts a focus on realistic, beautiful environments for players to explore. However, with little confirmed content for the game and no set date for release, it's possible the game will have more new concepts outside of its visuals. It will be important for New Pokémon Snap to embrace its new platform and exceed player expectations - and to be more than just a remake of a Pokémon game over two decades old - if it is to stand up to modern expectations. With luck, Pokémon's developers will be able to shape this reboot into something exciting and different, like they were able to do with the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, as well as the fresh new take on Kanto in Pokémon Let Go, Eevee! and Pikachu!.

Reboots and remakes of older games can be a real mixed bag for fans; however, the Pokémon developers have a good track record for taking something old and giving it a fresh coat of paint. New Pokémon Snap has the potential to take fans down memory lane but also to introduce new content that will lift it up to stand with popular titles like Sword and Shield and Pokémon GO. Hopefully, the remake of this classic title will be a picture perfect addition to the series.
