Nobody can deny that the X-Men relaunch in Marvel Comics is long overdue, but if there's been one shortcoming thus far, it's a lack of empathy. The new world order being born on the island of Krakoa cares only for mutants... except for the ones that they have apparently totally forgotten about.

For the comic readers enjoying the younger generation of X-Men starring in New Mutants -- and since the team outsold even X-Men, there are plenty -- the next issue will be yet another pleasant surprise. Because it's the New Mutants who are finally asking the question that Charles Xavier used to care about: What about the mutants who haven't been saved? Not the ones being kept prisoner, or held back from the Krakoan gateways (those are being taken care of by Kate Pryde's Marauders). And not the ones missing due to tragedy, like the gruesome fate of Domino, either. We're talking about the mutants who are simply... missing.

That's the question finally dealt with in New Mutants #3, as seen in Marvel's official preview pages. While most of the original members are currently adventuring in space with the Starjammers, the third issue focuses on Glob and Armor. As the former enjoys a home where he doesn't need to feel like such an oddity, the latter wonders about the mutants who aren't sharing in their new happiness. It's an emotional dilemma based on friendship and caring as opposed to building a powerful nation, so nobody but Armor obviously seems to care. Certainly not Sage, who brushes off Armor's investigations, leaving readers to wonder just how big a mystery the young mutant has stumbled upon. Check out the preview pages below:

The mention of both Beak and Angel Salvadore a.k.a. Tempest is guaranteed to be a thrill for fans of the Exiles and New Warriors. At the same time, it's hard not to be concerned about their absence from Krakoa. Could this be the first time the new line of X-Men books deals with mutants who don't actually want to live in total seclusion, with purely those who share their genes? Or is something more sinister at work? The full issue will follow Armor on her quest to locate Beak and the brood, but until then read on below for the full solicitation details and plot synopsis:
