A new trailer for New Mutants has finally been released, but what is the song playing in the background? After spending years in post-production limbo, Josh Boone’s horror superhero film New Mutants will finally see the light of day this year. Originally planned for an April 2018 release, the film was delayed due to reshoots to make it more frightening and also to avoid competition like Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the film was finally given a release date that will hopefully not change anymore.

New Mutants follows five young mutants (Magik, Wolfsbane, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Mirage) who are discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will. The mutants will have to confront their own demons and also find a way to escape. The cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, and Blu Hunt. The first trailer was released in October 2017, on Friday the 13th to keep the horror vibe going. It gave viewers a good look at the tone of the film and did a great job in getting viewers excited about it – and then the delays happened.

After that, no teasers or promotional material was released. Now that New Mutants has a release date and looks to be on its way to truly escape post-production hell, a new trailer has been released, and it did its best to keep the film’s original horror vibe, enhanced by a certain song.

What Song Is In The New Mutants Trailer?

Charlie Heaton, Anya Taylor-Joy, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga and Maisie Williams in New Mutants

The new trailer for New Mutants includes the chorus of a famous rock song, playing only at certain moments. The song is Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall”, a three-part composition recorded in 1979 as part of the band’s rock opera The Wall. The part used in the trailer is the chorus from “Part 2”, featuring a children’s choir – very fitting with the theme of the film, while also adding a creepy vibe to it (there’s something about a children’s choir that is so often used in the horror genre).

The song was written by Pink Floyd’s bassist Roger Waters, and it also appears in the British musical film The Wall, directed by Alan Parker, written by Waters, and starring Bob Geldof. As “Part 2” is a protest song against rigid school systems, the sequence in the film (which is now used as the song’s official video) has children entering a school and marching in unison through a meat grinder, becoming faceless clones, rioting, and burning down the school. “Another Brick in the Wall” is considered one of the greatest songs of all time, and it’s a must in Roger Waters’ tours.

The song goes perfectly with the tone and themes in New Mutants, and it certainly helped give the trailer a disturbing vibe with the children’s choir playing over shots of the hospital where the mutants are being kept captive. Hopefully, the film will be released without any further obstacles, and will make the wait worth – and, who knows, maybe it will include “Another Brick in the Wall”, too.
