The New Mutants star Maisie Williams has shared a review calling the movie the worst X-Men film ever. Fox helped make the superhero movie genre as popular as it is today, but the quality of the X-Men franchise became uneven, to say the least. They've had the highs of X2Logan, and Deadpool, but also low points like either adaptation of the Dark Phoenix storyline or X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

When the first New Mutants trailer dropped in 2017, it generated a lot of excitement for the potential of a scary X-Men movie featuring a great young cast. But after multiple delays, Disney's acquisition of Fox, and behind-the-scenes struggles, The New Mutants has now finally been released. The theatrical run for the movie comes after Disney didn't screen the film for critics, and the early reviews have not been kind. Even though this isn't the response that those involved hoped for, one of the stars is still sharing negative reviews.

Former Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams plays Wolfsbane in The New Mutants and as reviews for the movie have started to be posted online, she's shared one of the harshest ones. The specific review shared by Williams on Twitter called the film "the worst X-Men movie ever." But, instead of bashing the critic's opinion on the movie, Williams turned the criticism around to sell the movie. "Sounds like a must see! Get your tickets now," she wrote.

This is a clever response from Williams to a harsh review of her latest movie, but this also isn't the first time she's been part of a project that has received a less than stellar reception. The final season of Game of Thrones divided audiences, so Williams isn't a stranger to poor reviews. Instead of having a negative response to this review or pulling the old "this movie wasn't made for critics" card, Williams is playing into the bad press by having it be a reason why people should see the movie. That is, unless she also agrees that The New Mutants is the worst X-Men movie.

Although Williams is doing what she can to turn The New Mutants' fortune around, the fact of the matter is that most people aren't rushing to theaters to see it this weekend. Whether that's because of a lack of interest, hesitation to return to theaters in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, or not being able to due to theaters still being shut down in some parts of the country, The New Mutants isn't in a good position. And since there is a growing consensus that the film isn't good, those still curious about seeing what The New Mutants has to offer might be better off waiting until it is available on video on demand at a later date.
