Update: Read the full New Mutants trailer breakdown here!

A new The New Mutants movie trailer is released, confirming the film will have a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2020. Director Josh Boone's New Mutants is the last remaining 20th Century Fox X-Men movie, which will now be released by Disney as the Mouse House acquired all of Fox's movie and TV assets. It's the second Fox X-Men movie to be released by Disney, following last year's Dark Phoenix, and it was originally intended to launch a brand new spinoff series from the main franchise. However, The New Mutants has been plagued by multiple release date delays, first due to Fox ordering reshoots, then the Disney deal, and finally because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

After moving from its April release window, The New Mutants set an August release date for this year and Disney seems optimistic the X-Men movie will hit that date. Still, it's been some time since the last New Mutants trailer released earlier this year. Now new footage from the film has debuted alongside confirmation the project will hold an SDCC panel this year.

20th Century Studios unveiled a new 50-second New Mutants movie trailer with some new footage of the various mutant characters, and confirmed Boone's X-Men film will have a panel at the Comic-Con@Home event next week. The New Mutants panel will be Thursday, July 23 at 2pm PST. The panel will feature Boone along with cast members Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga and Alice Braga. Watch the trailer below.

There isn't too much new footage in this New Mutants trailer, though there is a moment when Taylor-Joy's Magik goes up against Hunt's Mirage, with the former's magic sword being stopped by some kind of forcefield. The trailer also shows Magik entering the Limbo dimension in New Mutants, which was previously revealed in an image, though the footage gives us some of Taylor-Joy's quippy dialogue. This trailer further highlights the movie's humor with another quip from Zaga's Sunspot, and a fun reaction from Heaton's Cannonball. Still, much of the rest of the footage is the same as previous trailers.

Perhaps Boone and the cast will unveil a new full-length New Mutants movie trailer during the film's Comic-Con@Home panel next week. If the movie is going to stick to its August release date, Disney will be looking to ramp up promotion soon. However, with Covid-19 cases on the rise around the U.S. it remains to be seen if New Mutants actually will release next month. There's long been speculation Disney could opt to release the movie on-demand, through Hulu, Disney+ or elsewhere. SDCC would be the perfect place to announce such a release strategy, since the convention moved online as a safety precaution amid the pandemic. Fans will just have to tune in to the New Mutants Comic-Con@Home panel to see what Boone and the cast have in store in terms of announcements and new footage.
