It looks like Rosario Dawson is, indeed, in talks to become a member of the X-Men cinematic universe. This wouldn't be the first time that the actress has starred alongside superheroes onscreen either, as Dawson has proven to be a key member in Marvel's expansion of their street-level TV side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Making her debut as Claire Temple a.k.a. Night Nurse in the first season of Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil, the actress has gone on to have appearances in every single Marvel Netflix show since then.

Right now, the actress is set to make her next Marvel appearance in this year's highly-anticipated Defenders team-up series, which brings together Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) for the first time in a battle against a dangerous new enemy. But Dawson may be joining a number of other select actors to surface in recent years, who have crossed over into multiple comic book universes.

Following some initial comments earlier this morning, THR is reporting that Dawson is currently in talks with 20th Century Fox to join the cast of their upcoming X-Men spin-off film, New Mutants. The report goes on to state that if Dawson is cast in the film, she will be playing Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a mutant character from the comics with the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself. Reyes is said to become a bit of a mentor to the main group of young mutants in the film, a role many had originally thought James McAvoy's Professor X would play in it before that was recently debunked. UPDATE: Director Josh Boone posted a snapshot of THR's report to his Instagram account, confirming that Dawson is either in talks or has closed her deal already.

So far, the only two cast members confirmed to be starring in New Mutants are Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams, with the former appearing as Illyana Rasputin/Magik and Williams taking on the role of Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane. 13 Reasons Why star, Henry Zaga, is also rumored to be playing Sunspot in the film, though, that has yet to be confirmed. However, with production on New Mutants set to begin in July, fans can likely expect to see the rest of the cast members announced sometime in the next month or two.

New Mutants is the latest film to come from Fox that is set to test the boundaries of the superhero genre. Boone has teased that it will be a "full-fledged horror movie," with influences taken from both Stephen King and John Hughes. If the filmmaker and studio are able to deliver on that promise as well, then New Mutants could very well wind up being possibly one of the most distinct comic book films to hit theaters in recent years - something Fox is becoming increasingly known for, following both Logan and Deadpool.

Dawson, for her part, has proven herself to be a talented actress, capable of standing out next to big personalities onscreen. Thus, if she does agree to star in New Mutants, then she has the potential to be an older anchor for the rest of the film's younger cast to look towards and act around.
