The latest promo video for The New Mutants puts the spotlight on Anya Taylor-Joy's Magik, showing off her considerable powers. Taylor-Joy first came to prominence in her debut role as Thomasin in Robert Eggers' smash hit horror film The Witch. Her part earned her plaudits from critics and fans and made her one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood. She followed it up with a role in M. Night Shyamalan's Split, which was also a sleeper hit. Taylor-Joy has also appeared as the lead in Emma, was in six episodes of Peaky Blinders, and will be the lead in Edgar Wright's next film, Last Night in Soho.

In The New Mutants, Taylor-Joy takes on the role of Illyana Rasputin, whose mutant moniker is Magik. In the comic books, she's a demon sorceress and the little sister of Colossus. It's unclear just how faithful the character will be to her comics origin, but it was confirmed she is Colossus' sister in the latest synopsis. In previous marketing materials she has been shown to be extraordinarily powerful, taking on Demon Bear in what is assumed to be the movie's finale.

Now, a new promo video posted by The New Mutants on Twitter shines the spotlight on Magik. The 22-second teaser focuses on the character's dark side, talking about how she's different from the rest of the mutants at the facility and boasting about how she likes to kill people on purpose. The visuals also show off Magik's powers, including her use of the Soulsword, which she crafts in the comics while being imprisoned in limbo. You can watch the teaser below.

The video also allows Taylor-Joy to show off her performance. There are glimpses of Magik's attitude, as well as her thick Russian accent, which comes off as pretty convincing for an actor not from there. The promo also manages to find time for another taste of Magik's climactic battle with Demon Bear, with the new footage making the fight look epic. This video is just the latest of many recent promos, as The New Mutants finally comes close to release . The movie, which was shot years ago, has been repeatedly delayed, but will finally see the light of day in theaters on August 28. Initially marketed as a claustrophobic horror, recent footage has focused more on the action side of things.

Given that The New Mutants went through extensive re-shoots and was also tweaked by director Josh Boone after 20th Century Fox was sold to Disney, there's clearly been ample time to work on the action set pieces. The end result looks more like a traditional big-budget X-Men movie than was initially thought. Audiences who are brave enough to venture out to theaters will find out just how action-packed it is in a few weeks.
