Fox is in the final stages of casting New Mutants and reportedly has their eyes set on Blu Hunt and True O'Brien to possibly play Mirage. Josh Boone is stepping into the blockbuster comic book movie genre for the first time and will be tackling the latest X-Men spin-off in doing so. New Mutants will bring in a new, young group of mutants - different from the young group assembled in X-Men: Apocalypse - and show them coming to terms with their abilities and one another. While the project is already less than a year from hitting theaters, filming has yet to begin, but the cast is finally coming together.

It was recently confirmed that Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams have joined the project as Magik and Wolfsbane respectively, but earlier today it was revealed that Henry Zaga is lined up to play Sunspot and Rosario Dawson as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. Now, two new names have surfaced as the first contenders to play Dani Moonstar aka Mirage.

The news comes courtesy of Omega Underground, who revealed that Blu Hunt (The Originals) and True O'Brien (Days of Our LivesQueen Sugar) are in the mix for the coveted role. This would be a major break for either of the two actresses if either are chosen, and Omega Underground believes of the two, it is more likely to be Hunt. Not only does she have a Native American background, but she also follows Boone, Taylor-Joy, Williams, and co-writer/producer Knate Lee on social media.

New Mutants Dani Moonstar Mirage

While neither Hunt nor O'Brien are officially locked in for the role, they are the first names that have surfaced at this point. Maybe that is because Fox has already passed on them, or they could very well still be up to play Dani. It was previously reported that Fox made it a point of emphasis to cast an actress that is actually Native American, so Hunt could very well wind up with the part. She may be relatively new to acting, but other franchises have found success in casting relative unknowns in leading roles (i.e. Tom Holland as Spider-Man and Daisy Ridley as Rey).

Her inclusion in New Mutants ties back to the comics where she plays a major role, but her powers also lend themselves incredibly well to the true horror approach Boone says the film is taking. She has the ability to create visible images of anyone's greatest fear. This will not only come in handy as the film tries to enter the horror genre, but could also be a nice way of getting to know each of the characters as they see their fears in front of them.

As far as these specific actresses landing the role of Dani Moonstar, we will have to wait and see. However, it does show that they are far along in the process, which could mean official news of Fox's Mirage casting will arrive sooner rather than later.
