Warning: SPOILERS for New Mutants #6

What started off as a simple search for former X-Men has turned into a disaster for the New Mutants. Now, the team are prime suspects in multiple murders. For those that haven't been following along, the mutant Beak and his wife Angel Salvadore have been missing for quite a while.

The couple is discovered to have gone into hiding at Beak's family home in Nebraska, along with their children, so that he can care for his ailing father. Armor, along with Glob and newcomers Maxime and Manon, came to the family's aid with medicine from Krakoa, hoping to convince Beak and Angel that it was best to come back to the island paradise with them. It might have worked too, had it not been for Bohem Cartel member Túmulo learning that there were much-coveted Krakoan drugs in town. When it was clear he wasn't getting what he wanted, Túmulo was ready to execute everyone.

Which brings us up to date and to Boom-Boom's grand entrance. At first, it appears like she's only made the situation worse, showing up intoxicated and unaware the cartel has weapons that can render mutant powers useless for a few hours. Neither of these factors turns out to be a problem for Boom-Boom, who has had special combat training and she easily overpowers the thugs outside. Inside the farmhouse, however, is a completely different story. Maxime and Manon used their mind-altering powers to convince two of the cartel members holding them hostage to kill each other. Glob, understandably, doesn't take this well and begins to chastise the younger members for their reckless use of their powers. It's something that'll surely put them in the cross-hairs of the Quiet Council.

As if things couldn't get any worse, Beak takes a bullet in the chest trying to get his kids out of the house. After Boom-Boom and Armor make short work of the cartel members outside, Glob carries Beak out of the house and into the back of the cartel's jeep. Angel and her kids are close behind but they don't get very far before another gunshot stops everyone cold in their tracks. Túmulo holds a gun to the head of Beak's father, who is distraught after seeing his wife killed before his eyes. While Túmulo tries to force the New Mutants to hand over the Krakoan medicine and let him go, Angel makes it clear that no matter what there's no way out of this situation for him. He's trapped. So he pulls the trigger, killing Beak's father and then himself. A distraught Angel then takes Beak and their children to the nearest hospital as the Armor, Glob, and the others wonder how this whole situation went so wrong.

Unbeknownst to them, someone from the human-friendly news organization DOX snapped a photo of the New Mutants at the crime scene. They report that members of the New Mutants were at the farmhouse where at least four people were found murdered, setting the team up as suspects. While they managed to walk away from this fight, writer Ed Brisson has set the stage for major consequences to befall the team down the road. Not only are the authorities going to be looking to question members of the New Mutants (but in the Marvel universe, what else is new?) but now the Bohem Cartel has the team on their radar as well. Maxime and Manon are also potential problems. Are the twins just inexperienced or do they have secret sinister motives behind their shocking actions? There's also no telling how these events will affect Armor's current quest of finding missing mutants, but you can bet it at least won't get any easier.
