This is just crazy.
Eclipse is scheduled to open on June 30, 2010.
Here's the synopsis for The Twilight Saga's Eclipse (I still can't stand that "Saga" title addition):
"As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger," the plotline explains of the film based on Stephenie Meyer's "Eclipse" novel. "In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob -- knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death."
So that's 11 months to crank out New Moon, but how long does that give them to produce Eclipse? According to MTV those two films will not be shot back to back (as was done with the Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Summit Entertainment says they have not yet chosen a director for the third film.
Seems to me that if they want to meet the deadline they need to go with a different director so there can be some overlap in pre-production on the third film and post-production on the second one. I just can't see how Chris Weitz could do both of those (he's directing #2). You'd think the studio would at least want to see the reaction to Weitz' version before forging ahead and possibly picking someone else to helm the third film in the series.
I guess if they can put a new Saw movie out once a year, maybe this is doable as well?
What do Twilight fans think of this?
