2011 will see a handful of alien invasion movies, but one of the most anticipated of its kind releases this October. Gareth Edwards’ microbudget Monsters is picking up buzz every chance it gets. The latest trailer should add to the excitement.
The beautiful cinematography is put on display in the trailer and you may have to freeze frame it a few times to truly witness the gorgeous footage Edwards and crew ended up with. Definitely check out the 1:10 mark, which shows one of the most awesome displays of natural beauty in recent memory.
More impressive even is that it was all done on an alleged budget of only $15,000. Needless to say, it shouldn’t have any trouble making that back. The R-rating is still a mystery as the trailers have shown no signs of anything beyond what would earn it a PG-13 rating. The plot summary itself is as intriguing as the footage, tiptoeing around what might unfold on screen.
Six years after Earth has suffered an alien invasion, a cynical journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.
While the previous trailers gave a more action-oriented feel, this footage promotes the journey of the film’s main characters. While some critic quotes in the trailer pull you in the direction of hardcore monster movie, others present a more atmospheric experience.
Overall, the trailer is a perfect blend of visuals and sound that add to the suspense and feel of Monsters. Enjoy the trailer below.
I was fortunate enough to see an early screening of the film recently, so check back for details in our review with the theatrical release. I can tell you though, that this trailer is most accurate depiction of Monsters. The first one promoted a full-throttle action film, and while it has plenty of those moments, it is more about the two characters’ journey.
What do you think of the trailer? Is this a movie you are excited to see?
Monsters hits On Demand, XBox Live, PlayStation Marketplace, Amazon and Vudu on September 24th. It unleashes on theaters October 29th, 2010.
