Marvel's newest Iron Man seems to be one of the last heroes fans will expect. Nevertheless, the newest cover for Daredevil's upcoming comic leaves little doubt -- depicting the Iron Man helmet now bearing the Daredevil's signature horns. It's a shocking, completely out of left-field announcement... that is extremely exciting.
The tease comes from the Marvel solicitations for June 2020, withe the cover art for Daredevil #22 revealing the helmet in question. The Daredevil armor variation looks undeniably cool. While retaining the core look of Iron Man's helmet, the horns and color scheme are as blood red as fans of Matt Murdock would hope. Does this mean what it appears to, that Daredevil will become Iron Man or wear a look inspired by the iconic hero?
Daredevil's recently faced a bit of an identity crisis, as he had ditched his previous red suit for his old-fashioned black one, leaving the future of Daredevil unclear. But after Hell's Kitchen was stormed by supervillains, Matt Murdock seemed to have a change of heart, witnessing a heartbreaking salute to Daredevil from his own New York community, supporting him in the wake of destruction. Considering Tony Stark is officially dead in Marvel Comics, it would make sense to see a new person use his tech and wear an Iron Man-inspired suit. However, Daredevil is literally the last character expected to assume that mantle. He's a street-level hero that doesn't rely on technology to defend Hell's Kitchen. For Daredevil, it's all about using his supersense and fighting skills to take down his opponents. But given the fight he's up against in Hell's Kitchen, getting an Iron Man suit would make him a one-person army.
Whatever the story about to be told, the picture alone is shocking. Is Daredevil the new Iron Man? Is Matt Murdock going to get a considerably upgraded suit? It would be a massive change in mindset for Daredevil, but stranger things have happened. There's no question this news comes close to the most surprising reveal from Marvel in recent memory.
