Marvel Developing New 'Iron Man' Animated Series

New Iron Man CartoonTV

Following the the renewal of Ultimate Spider-Man a few weeks ago and the announcement of the new Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H series, it seems that Marvel Animation now has their sights set on adding a new Iron Man cartoon to their Disney XD programming block - perhaps in an attempt to compete with Cartoon Network's popular DC Nation.

With filming of Iron Man 3 in full-swing and the huge worldwide box office success of The Avengers movie, Marvel is no doubt cashing in on the post-Avengers popularity wave. What a new Iron Man cartoon means for the animated series Iron Man: Armored Adventures, which was developed before Disney’s purchase of Marvel in 2009, remains to be seen. But since Armored Adventures airs on Disney XD’s rival Nicktoons, it's doubtful that both will be on TV at the same time.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gary Marsh, the President of Disney Channels Worldwide, briefly talked about the potential series:

"Two months ago, we launched Marvel Universe on Disney XD, which became the exclusive home for new Marvel television content. We’ve developed ‘Ultimate Spider-Man.’ Subsequent to the success of the ‘Avengers’ movie, we’ve been developing a new ‘Avengers Assemble.’ We’re talking about a 'Hulk' series and an 'Iron Man' series, too. They’re going to spend $150 million to $200 million to make these [movie] properties and then half of that to market them; I’m sitting here thinking, 'Thank you, Lord, you’ve made me look good.'"

No official word just yet on if a new Iron Man cartoon is actually in production, but seeing as the aforementioned Hulk series will premiere this fall, an Iron Man show could very well be a done deal. It should also be noted that former Heroes star Adrian Pasdar has voiced Iron Man for the English version of Marvel Anime: Iron Man as well as the upcoming season of Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., so it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he took on this role once more.

While a new Disney XD Iron Man animated series might be welcome news for those fans who feel the Nicktoons Iron Man: Armored Adventures is too childish, it still remains to be seen what a new Iron Man, Hulk and Avengers programing block will do to mollify upset fans still reeling from the cancellation of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
