The Neighbors' Creative Team & Publisher Know Horror

In addition to being a comic creator, Jude Ellison S. Doyle is a journalist and writer who has written two non-fiction books. He writes essays, some of which have been included in the recent anthology, It Came From the Closet: Queer Reflections on Horror. Doyle is no stranger to the horror genre and neither is the rest of the creative team. BOOM! Studios has produced numerous comics within the genre in recent years, including Stuff of Nightmares, We Only Find Them When They're Dead, and Behold, Behemoth. The Neighbors will be the newest addition to the publisher's many intriguing offerings. Check out the series' covers and synopsis here:

When Janet and Oliver Gowdie move to a quaint mountain town, their daughter Casey becomes part of a horrific chain of events revealing that their neighbors are anything but what they seem. Soon, an unsettling old woman named Agnes Early fixates on Janet and Oliver's other daughter - 2-year-old Isobel. It becomes clear that it's impossible to know who to trust... or who is even still human...

There will be four covers available for the debut issue of The Neighbors. The main cover is drawn by Miguel Mercado. The three variant covers come from Fábio Moon, Frany, and Ramón K. Pérez. BOOM Studios! has also revealed some of the character designs for the series. Drawn by Letizia Cadonici, there are five thus far.

The creative team behind The Neighbors is excited for the series' upcoming release. Writer Jude Ellison S. Doyle expanded upon some of the inspiration for the comic:

I am so excited for THE NEIGHBORS. It's a story about what scared me as a kid, what scares me as a parent, and the terror that shadows queer and trans people who are raising families in 2022. Letizia Cadonici's witchy, haunted art provides such a beautiful portal into this other world. I sincerely hope you'll walk through and see what's inside.

Letizia Cadonici, the BOOM! Studios series artist, was stunned by the script, saying:

I am a huge fan of horror and mystery stories so when I read the script for THE NEIGHBORS that Jude had written I really thought it was tailor-made for me. Jude has created such a wonderful and terrifying world, full of so many intriguing symbols and monstrous creatures, that I'm seriously having the time of my life drawing every detail.

BOOM! Studios Executive Editor, Sierra Hahn, adds:

THE NEIGHBORS is just as compelling, brutally honest, and socially relevant as Jude's previous series Maw, and with the addition of artist Letizia and colorist Alessandro, this brand new horror series is bound to entertain and horrify in equal measures.

For this project, BOOM! Studios has brought together a stunning team to bring this new horror series to life. How the queer themes prevalent in Doyle's work will play into this story will be intriguing to see. Horror stories have long been a way to examine and play with the things that scare humanity - The Neighbors will do the same with its fresh take on changelings when the series releases March 2023.
