New Girl followed the quirky Jessica as she tried to rebuild her life after ending a long-term relationship and moved into a new loft with new roommates who become a big part of her life. Before Jess moved into the loft, she grew up with CeCe as her best friend.
CeCe is a model and Jess is a teacher and both lead very different lives. The two have extremely different personalities, but they've still stayed life-long friends. Here are some of the worst things Jess has done to CeCe in their friendship and some terrible things CeCe has done to Jess throughout the show.
Jess: Not Letting CeCe Have Other Friends
Jess is pretty protective and possessive of CeCe and their friendship to the point where she's jealous if CeCe has any other friends besides her. For one of her birthdays, CeCe wants to go out with Jess and all of her model friends.
Jess is hesitant because she hates CeCe's friends and wants it to be just them, which is a relatable feeling but also a selfish act that hurts CeCe.
CeCe: Not Telling Jess About Being With Schmidt
CeCe begins a relationship with Schmidt, but she doesn't tell anyone including his roommate and her best friend Jess. When everyone learns about their secret relationship it blows up in CeCe's face as Jess feels betrayed that she wouldn't tell her a secret like that. The two get into a fight where CeCe reveals that she has kept a lot of secrets from Jess.
Jess: Buying The Yellow Purse
CeCe and Jess both fell in love with a yellow purse and agree to leave it at the sale so they don't fight over it. But Jess secretly went back and bought the purse without telling her best friend.
It's a simple action, but because of both of the women's passive-aggressive tendencies, Jess's betrayal causes a huge fight between the two.
CeCe: Not Paying Attention To Jess
On the other end of their fight on CeCe's birthday, it is true that CeCe's friends treat Jess terribly throughout the night and CeCe is pretty oblivious to this. Jess tries at first to go out with her friends, even though it's not something she wants to do, she does this for her best friend on her birthday and tries to get along with them. This blows up for both of them as Jess can't be friends with the models and CeCe gets upset with her and her judgment of her being a model.
Jess: Throwing CeCe A Bachelorette Party
CeCe is planning to marry Shivrang and Jess decides to throw her a typical bachelorette party with various dirty games to play and she's invited all of her model friends to join in the fun. Little does Jess know, CeCe is bringing Shivrang's grandmother and aunt to her place as they've traveled from India to help plan the wedding. Although Jess's intentions were fine, it became incredibly embarrassing for CeCe.
CeCe: Trying To Parent Russell's Daughter
Jess is nervous and excited to be babysitting her boyfriend Russell's daughter as she sees it as a test in their relationship. CeCe learns that she may be pregnant with Schmidt's baby and begins to spiral at the thought of being a mother.
Seeing an opportunity, she takes over in trying to take care of Russell's daughter with disastrous results and doesn't care about how it might affect Jess's relationship.
Jess: Not Realizing CeCe Doesn't Love Shivrang
As CeCe's best friend, she should have realized that she wasn't in love with Shivrang and didn't want to marry him. But instead, Jess takes CeCe's word that she does want to go through with it, even though she's lying. It takes Schmidt to realize that she doesn't want to marry him and Winston ruining the wedding with a prank to get CeCe to admit that she doesn't want to get married.
CeCe: Leaving Jess Locked In A Room With Nick
In a game of True American, the loft locks Nick and Jess in a room together and demands that they kiss as part of the game. Jess calls her boyfriend Sam and best friend CeCe to let her out because Nick and Jess don't want to kiss. CeCe shows up, but she leaves them in the room as she gets caught up in her on again off again relationship with Schmidt.
Jess: Leaving For Mexico After CeCe's Wedding
After CeCe's failed wedding Nick and Jess decide to run away to Mexico to try to get some time alone to work on themselves and figure out their relationship. This would be fine if it wasn't such terrible timing. Her best friend has just canceled her wedding and is going through the emotional fallout and issues with her family and she could probably use a best friend right now, but instead, Jess runs away with Nick.
CeCe: Not Confiding In Jess About Shivrang
Although Jess didn't pick up on CeCe's true feelings about her upcoming wedding, it's also on CeCe for not confiding in Jess. Jess believes that CeCe always tells her what she's feeling and doesn't keep any secrets, but it's revealed throughout the show that CeCe actually keeps a lot of things to herself that Jess doesn't know about. Jess is open and honest in their friendship, but CeCe isn't, which causes a lot of rifts in their friendship.
