By the third season of New Girl, this wacky sitcom is in full swing. Nick and Jess have found their way together (and apart), as have Schmidt and CeCe, True American is an institution, and fans are in love with everything about the show. However, even the best sitcoms are going to have some ups and downs, and New Girl is no exception.

The third season has some notable lows, including a multi-episode arc where Jess's wild and wayward sister comes to town, and some equally impressive highs, like Jess's surprise birthday and a cameo from Prince! But according to IMDb, which are the best episodes of the series, and which is the worst of them all?

Worst: Mars Landing (7.4)

Everyone loves a game of True American, but in the twentieth episode of this season, the focus is on the aftermath, not the game - and it fails to be quite as much fun to watch. While some of the loft inhabitants are busy trying to impress the hot new neighbors moving in (and failing, thanks to their hangovers), Nick and Jess are trying to build a children's toy for a birthday party. The hangovers don't help, but it also causes them to reevaluate their relationship - and actually break up. No wonder fans don't love this one.

Best: Cruise (7.8)

new girl cruise

The season finale is usually a popular episode of any season, and this one is no exception. In 'Cruise', Nick and Jess are stuck on a non-refundable cruise they booked together as a couple, and so decide to bring everyone else along to make it less awkward. Obviously, that doesn't work, especially when they all end up getting locked in their tiny cabin together.

Worst: Sister (7.3)

The first of a three-episode arc centered on Abby, Jess's sister, 'Sister' sees a classic comedic device come into play, as Jess feels like she has to lie to both Nick and Abby about the day in order to prevent them meeting.

Turns out, Jess is both ashamed of and overshadowed by her wild child sister, and hates that she is only seeing her because she has to pick her up from jail and take her to the airport. It's an interesting look at Jess's family, but just not that interesting.

Best: All In (7.8)

The season premiere sees Nick and Jess having decided to run away to Mexico rather than deal with trying to live out their relationship in the drama of the loft. Seems like a good idea at the time, but clearly, it's not the most sustainable. In the meantime, Schmidt is also having relationship problems, as his inability to decide between CeCe and Elizabeth has him cheating on them both with each other. It's a great start to the season.

Worst: Sister III (7.3)

The third of the Abby sister trilogy. In this episode, it seems that Abby and Schmidt are deeply happy in their new relationship, and it turns out that that makes Jess and Nick jealous. Upset that they are no longer in the first flush of romance, they try and live together (more than they already do - by sharing a room), and find that it just doesn't work out. Nothing much changes throughout the episode, and it's simply not that funny.

Best: Coach (7.8)

new girl coach

Coach is a semi-regular inhabitant of the loft, and his episodes are always some of the best. In 'Coach',  he returns, and Jess realizes that he didn't really connect with her. This leads her and CeCe to go on a wild night out, while the guys go to a strip club, even though none of them really want to be there.

Worst: Sister II (7.2)

It's notable that of the three episodes about Abby, all three of them manage to get a place on the five worst episodes list. This middle episode sees Abby moving into the loft and her relationship with Schmidt heating up.

The secondary storyline, meanwhile, is all about Winston getting his police academy results - which should have made this episode more important than it was.

Best: Birthday (8.4)

'Birthday' is one of the sweetest episodes in the season, centered on Jess's birthday. Nick is attempting to be a 'good boyfriend', but hasn't quite realized how much Jess pins her hopes on her birthday... or at least, it looks that way at first. At the end, it becomes clear that Nick knew exactly what he was doing, and switched up Jess's usual 'alone in a movie theater' birthday plans to a big surprise party and a loving film of well wishes from friends. Aw!

Worst: The Box (7.2)

Nick has always been broke in the show (so far!), but this episode changes things. It sees Nick inheriting some money, and generally failing to be in any way responsible, while Jess tries to get involved and make him pay off his bills and parking tickets. Perhaps this episode isn't more popular because at the end of the day, bills and tickets just aren't that much fun, even if they are fictional!

Best: Prince (8.6)

Jess, Prince, and Nick sitting on a bench in New Girl

In possibly the best cameo of the series, this episode sees the legendary Prince holding a party - and the gang from the loft get invited! It's a little bit out there, but seeing Prince give Nick and Jess advice on their relationship after Nick accidentally tells her he loves her is truly beautiful.. and just the right amount of funny.
