The main cast of New Girl was relatively small, but there were several characters who came and went throughout the series. Because of this, there were plenty of different opportunities for romance. Most viewers were happy with how all the relationships played out, as everyone got a happy ending.

Nick and Jess, Schmidt and Cece, and Winston and Aly were all married by the show's final episode and a flashforward revealed that they were still together years later. However, all the characters were so close that fans can't help but wonder if some of their connections should have been further explored.

Winston And Nick

Nick and Winston definitely fit the childhood friends to lovers trope. The two of them met when they were kids, and they've been close ever since.

Nick and Winston get along well, and although everyone in the series has disagreements, Nick and Winston don't get into it that often. They enjoy each other's company and have no problem living together. Winston was also close with Nick's father, and they were already like family.

Coach And Winston

Coach and Winston had a hate/love friendship that added an extra level of comedy to their dynamic. They enjoyed being around each other at the end of the day, but they often found themselves in competition.

If they became something more it would definitely be a fervent relationship, which is something that could appeal to them. Given their dating history, Coach and Winston are both drawn to fiery personas.

Nick And Schmidt

It's not much of a leap to think that Schmidt is in love with Nick. He was attached to him ever since they roomed together in college, and Schmidt prioritizes his relationship with Nick above all else.

Schmidt throws them anniversary parties and has no problem putting a boatload of cash towards the celebration. He also kisses Nick on more than one occasion, and it's not uncommon for them to be mistaken for a couple.

Reagan And Cece

When Reagan was first introduced in New Girl she mentions that she and Cece had hooked up in the past. However, their relationship is never mentioned again and the series plays it off as a wild night.

It's a shame given how much chemistry the two of them have, and many viewers wanted the relationship to be further explored. It felt somewhat misleading for them to drop a bomb like that and then ignore it.

Schmidt And Jess

Schmidt and Jess are definitely one of the more odd pairings, but there are a lot of fans who thought this relationship deserved a chance. The possibility for romance was always there, as Schmidt tried to kiss Jess and seemed to be attracted to her when they were first getting to know each other.

Early on in their friendship, Jess even tried to sleep with Schmidt before she gets caught by Nick as she's approaching his room with a box of condoms. No matter the outcome, a romance was worth exploring.

Nick And Russell

Russell may have been Jess's boyfriend, but it was Nick whose heart he stole. Nick saw Russell as a role model, and although he never understood Nick's infatuation with him, Russell didn't seem too bothered by it.

Nick once referred to Russell as the man he and Jess both loved, so it would've been interesting if Nick was the one who was dating him, instead. Nick's marriage to Jess caused a bit of a falling out between them, but if Jess wasn't in the picture, things could've gone differently.

Cece And Winston

Cece and Winston were an unlikely pair when the show started, but they end up becoming one of the sitcom's iconic duos. They agree on almost everything and had a great time making fun of Schmidt together.

Winston and Cece's mess-arounds are a running gag throughout the series, and their friendship helped elevate the show even more. They're clearly compatible, which is a necessary component of any romantic relationship.

Jess And Cece

Jess and Cece's closeness is surprising given how different they are, but they were best friends ever since they were little. They grew up alongside each other and know the most intimate details about each other's lives.

Jess and Cece are each other's biggest confidant, and there's nothing they wouldn't do for each other. They're always in each other's corner, and genuinely want one another to be happy. Because of how healthy their friendship is, it's not at all surprising that fans wanted them to become more.

Winston And Schmidt

Schmidt and Winston originally had trouble hanging out by themselves. They knew each other through Nick and he was the glue that held them together. But once Winston moves into the loft he and Schmidt form a friendship of their own, and they became a fan-favorite duo.

They're often the most chaotic pairing in New Girl, and the episodes that feature their shenanigans are often the funniest. If they dated, their relationship would definitely have a lot of ups and downs, but that's what would make it so fun to watch.

Cece And Nick

It might have been awkward for Nick and Cece to date given Nick's relationship with Jess, but when Jess thought the two of them had feelings for each other she tried to find a way to be okay with it. She even went as far as playing matchmaker.

Nick and Cece don't have a lot in common, but that's what would make them such an interesting couple. Regardless of whether their romance is a success or a complete trainwreck, it would have been fun for viewers to watch it play out.
