Fortnite's Limited Time Modes provide its avid players with a little something extra to enjoy besides the title's standard Battle Royale fare. After the success of Season 7's Swords LTM, it's nice to see that Epic Games is revisiting an old classic for the new Fortnite LTM in Season 8: The Floor is Lava.

The Floor is Lava was a popular game that you most likely played as a child. As the name suggests, you would have to avoid the floor of whatever room you were in by leaping onto pretty much anything at hand, whether it was the nearest couch or another kid playing the same game. The fundamental concept of the game seems pretty translatable in terms of the game's mechanics, especially with all of the various building elements, so it's pretty easy to see how the new Fortnite LTM could pan out.

Eurogamer has now reported that the new Fortnite LTM for Season 8 is based on a game that we're all familiar with: The Floor is Lava. The game client's announcements note that players are going to have to fend off opponents by constructing increasingly elaborate vertical structures in the face of oncoming lava. Much like the popular children's game, you're going to have to dodge, duck, and jump onto anything you can find to avoid falling to a fiery death.

The promotional photo for the new Fortnite LTM appears to suggest to some degree that this game mode is going to be one that involves teaming up with another unlucky soul. However, nothing has quite yet been confirmed in this vein, so it could very well be that the game's standard 'every player for themselves' rules apply. It could be interesting for the LTM to basically be a duos mode; this would lend a little more variety to the LTM in isolation from the game's Battle Royale mode, and it could also provide for some entertaining interplay when it comes to deciding who does what in the heat of the moment. With the clock ticking on the ever-rising lava, having to coordinate two people instead of just fending for yourself will add a chaotic element to the play, which is what The Floor is Lava is all about.

As Season 8 rolls on, it's likely that players are going to find out more the new Fortnite LTM along with the other content that Epic Games has been promising. The community is currently uncertain when it comes to the matter of exactly this new Floor is Lava Mode is going to be released, but it could be as early as the upcoming Fortnite version 8.20 update.
