A brand new tabletop game based on the Fallout franchise has launched in the form of Fallout: The Roleplaying Game. It has been a busy time for the RPG series over the last few months, with Bethesda introducing Fallout Worlds to Fallout 76, adding a fresh way to play the online title. Still in the early stages of testing, Fallout Worlds provides an element of customization to Fallout 76, giving it far more potential for many players.

Adding a tabletop game to the Fallout franchise isn't the only way to diversify its offerings - its games have fostered a modding community, and a series of modders recently set about creating a huge open-world Star Wars game using Fallout: New Vegas assets. In a video uploaded to YouTube in July, the group showcased the various planets and characters that are in development and explained its goals for the large project. These include having some 12 explorable planets, multiple factions, and a wide array of companions and characters.

Modiphius Entertainment has announced that Fallout: The Roleplaying Game is now available in stores. Based on the hit video game franchise, the tabletop game is a pen and paper adaptation using the popular 2D20 RPG rules system. In a similar way to Dungeons & Dragons, players will be able to create their own characters while Game Masters can set up campaigns and choose which enemies will fight against the other players. In addition to a 400-page hardback rulebook with concept art from the video games and a series of starter quests, the set includes a wide range of accessories and dice sets. Fallout: The Roleplaying Game will launch in North America in January 2022 but is already available in other regions.

Fallout is not the only video game franchise that has been adapted to tabletop form as of late. Earlier this year, The OP Games revealed that it was working on a Cuphead board game. Called Cuphead: Fast Rolling Dice, it is a co-op dice game for between one and four players as they attempt to defeat a series of imposing bosses with strategic use of powers and skills. Cuphead: Fast Rolling Dice will be available during fall 2021, and will retail for $49.99.

Tabletop and board games have seen something of a resurgence over the last year or so, due to quarantining and social distancing measure amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A Fallout tabletop game certainly makes sense on paper - after all, the original titles are vast RPGs with lots of customization offered to players. This fits in well with the idea of a tabletop roleplaying game, although it remains to be seen just how good Fallout: The Roleplaying Game will be in practice.
