Rumors stemming from an employee's LinkedIn page suggest WB Games Montréal may be developing another DC video game after Gotham Knights. While it's unclear if the project will be based on DC Comics characters, the studio has worked exclusively with that license since 2013, when it released Batman: Arkham Origins, a prequel to Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series. A formal announcement of this project likely won't come in the near future, as Gotham Knights is still in development, targeting a 2022 release.

WB Games Montréal's senior artist Megan Berry listed herself as a co-founder and art director on an unannounced game. Seemingly concluding her work in June 2021, Berry collaborated on a demo, which is may have been an art demo to pitch the game for full development. Given that Berry worked on Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, and that WB Games Montréal also developed elements of Batman: Arkham Knight's DLC, it's reasonable to suspect that she and her team created an art demo for another DC video game.

While WB Games Montréal's published and announced DC games have all centered on the Batman corner of DC Comics, this rumored game could break that trend and highlight other characters from DC's vast library. With Outright Games developing DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace and Rocksteady Studios making Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, WB Games Montréal's potential DC video game likely won't be focusing on either of those two properties. Fortunately, the DC Universe is vast and filled to the brim with iconic comic book characters, meaning there are still plenty of superheroes that the studio could be working on.

Gotham Knights' Robin Could Join The Teen Titans

There's currently no word on if WB Games Montréal's unannounced project will tie into its next one, but the studio could have Robin or Nightwing join the Teen Titans after they face the Court of Owls in Gotham Knights. The superhero team, consisting of teenage heroes who are sometimes sidekicks to Justice League members, have garnered a cult following through their appearance in the animated Teen Titans show from the 2000s. While they haven't headlined their own video game since 2006's Teen Titans on the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox, the group's popularity and diverse cast of characters make them prime candidates for a potential new DC title. Robin and Nightwing, who will appear as playable characters in Gotham Knights, are core members of the Teen Titans and the similarly-themed Young Justice, which could give WB Games Montréal an opportunity to spin-off the world it created in Gotham Knights into different corners of the DC Universe.

WB Games Montréal's Secret Project Could Be Superman

Superman DC Comics Daily Planet

Despite being one of the most popular DC heroes, Superman hasn't led his own solo AAA video game since 2006's Superman Returns movie tie-in. After WB Games Montréal posted a job listing for a Senior Game Designer, theories that the Gotham Knights studio was developing a Superman game began popping up. An online ad (via ResetEra) expressed the developer was interested in hiring for a "third person open-world action game." While the opening didn't specifically name drop Superman, the Man of Steel is long overdue for a game of his own and the city of Metropolis would give WB Games Montréal the chance to create its own sprawling urban world, similar to Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man.

Wonder Woman Is Long Overdue Her Own Video Game

Similar to Superman, Wonder Woman is a fan-favorite DC character who hasn't led a video game of her own in a while. The heroine last headlined a game in 2017, with Wonder Woman: Rise of the Warrior on iOS, Android, and PC. While her next appearance will be in Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Wonder Woman would provide WB Games Montréal the opportunity to differentiate its rumored title from other recent DC video games, with the character possessing more fantasy elements than other mainstream DC heroes. The developer's hints at at open-world setting also match perfectly with the heroine, as Wonder Woman frequently travels between Themyscira and the world of man.

WB Montréal's Secret DC Game - Could It Be Flash?

The Flash Injustice Gods Among Us

It's to be expected that only the most popular superheroes will receive a video game of their own, meaning that those characters who have featured prominently outside of the comics stand a better chance of being the lead in WB Games Montréal's project than those who don't. One such character could be the Flash. The Scarlet Speedster has only headlined three games in total, with the last coming in 2006. The popularity of the CW's The Flash and the upcoming 2022 movie based on the character signal the strong popularity of Barry Allen. With the increased power of consoles like the PS5, a Flash video game could work better on current gen consoles due to Barry's quick movements.

Jason Momoa's and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's takes on Aquaman and Black Adam, respectively, have drawn increased attention to these slightly lesser-known DC characters. Both figures inhabit unique worlds, Atlantis and Kahndaq, which would give the rumored game a welcome change of aesthetic compared to other DC video games, which have primarily been urban-set. Black Adam specifically lends himself to the grittier DC depictions that have found popularity in the DCEU, although Aquaman would allow for the developer to start assembling the Justice League in its games universe.

WB Games Montréal Could Revisit Batman

WB's Canceled Batman Game Could've Been Arkham Knight's Perfect Sequel

As the information from Berry's LinkedIn didn't specify the game would be unrelated to Batman, it's possible that WB Games Montréal could be developing a follow-up either to Gotham Knights or Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham games. Batman is commonly cited as the most popular DC hero, so it's possible the rumored game could revive the canceled Batman: Arkham Knight sequel. However, with Rocksteady already continuing the Arkhamverse with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and WB Games Montréal already making Gotham Knights, the studio may wish to move forward with original stories and develop its own vision untethered to one developed elsewhere. That could potentially mean reinventing the Caped Crusader yet again, and maybe even taking inspiration from Batman Beyond or another series completely.
