Potential spoilers ahead for Darkhawk #2!

Marvel’s newest armored hero Darkhawk takes flight in a special preview for Darkhawk #2, on sale September 29 in print and digital. This year marks Darkhawk’s 30th anniversary, and to celebrate,Marvel has released a new miniseries featuring an all-new Darkhawk, and fans get to see him in action in this sneak peek.

There have been two characters bearing the Darkhawk mantle. The first, Christopher Powell, was a teenager who found an amulet that allowed him to physically switch bodies with a powerful android that he could then control. Over time, Powell would learn more about the amulet’s nature and of its connection with the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe, which would eventually lead him to outer space and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Earlier this year, Marvel published a special one-shot to commemorate Darkhawk’s 30th anniversary; the special brought Christopher Powell’s story to an end and introduced readers to the new Darkhawk: Connor Young.  Connor is a teen, much like Powell was when he first became Darkhawk, and Marvel continues its celebration of the his 30th anniversary by giving Connor his own series. In the first issue, readers meet Connor, a promising athlete who receives a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. His future now uncertain, a desolate Connor finds a mysterious amulet that transforms him into Darkhawk. Now, in issue two, he leaps into action to save his best friend.

Marvel has provided Monkeys Fighting Robots a sneak peek of the second issue, written by Kyle Higgins, with art Juanan Ramirez, with colors by Erick Arciniega and letters by Travis Lanham. Connor and his friend Derek are robbed and Derek chases after those responsible. However, Derek is in over his head as he soon finds himself facing his robbers—and they are all armed with guns. Just as the situation seems hopeless, Darkhawk appears, flying above them, ordering everyone to put their guns down. The preview ends there, and readers must wait until September 29 to watch how Darkhawk handles the situation.

Connor Young, the new Darkhawk, finds himself in a situation similar to his predecessor: feeling lost and broken, they both found the Darkhawk amulet and are using it to fight crime. Powell came on the radar of other Marvel heroes quickly, and judging by the cover to issue two, it looks as if Connor will be running into Spider-Man. The Wall-Crawler was not a huge fan of Powell, so how will Spider-Man react to this newcomer? And is Powell truly gone?

Only time will tell how Connor will measure up to Powell; Powell rose from a troubled teen to one of the Guardians of the Galaxy—Connor has big shoes to fill. Christopher Powell started small, handing street crime before he moved to the cosmic scene—will the new Dark Hawk Connor Young follow suit?
