New Clips: The Book Of Eli & Legion

Are you feeling starved for a little faith-based action and adventure? Well then, you've come to the right place!

Today we have some clips from upcoming films The Book of Eli and Legion - two films which are based in Christian mythology and/or faith but have (surprisingly enough) courted very little controversy from the religious sector thus far. Of course, both films have also taken enough liberties (angels with machine guns anyone?) to keep them off the poo-poo lists of both religious groups and movie lovers alike. For now, at least...

If you haven't been keeping tabs on either The Book of Eli or Legion, here are the synopses for both films:

The Book of Eli

A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man (Denzel Washington) fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book (the bible?) that holds the secrets to saving humankind. Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis co-star as a despotic ruler and his adopted daughter.

After a terrifying biblical apocalypse descends upon the world, a group of strangers stranded in a remote truck stop diner in the Southwest unwittingly become humanity’s last line of defense when they discover the diner’s young waitress is pregnant with the messiah.

BE WARNED: These clips show enough to be considered SPOILERS to those who don't like to see too much. Check out both films, courtesy of our friends over at Collider:

Both of these films seem fine enough in premise - but your talking to a guy who stays jaded during the January - February movie season. It's pretty much a dumping ground for studios to unload their crap projects, and, with a scant few exceptions (last year's Taken for example, which actually arrived late in the U.S.), everything you shell out to see in the theater is better left to DVD viewing.

Of course that's just my opinion, and maybe The Book of Eli and Legion will be exceptions. The former is directed by The Hughes Brothers (From Hell, American Pimp) who are two of my favorite filmmakers; the latter looks to be - if nothing else - a good popcorn B-movie for a rainy matinee.

How about you - what did you think of the clips?
