A former Ghost of Tsushima writer has revealed that they will be the Narrative Lead on the upcoming BioShock game. Publisher Take-Two announced the fourth BioShock was in the works at its new studio Cloud Chamber back in 2019, with previous developer Irrational Games having shut down in 2017. It did follow up this announcement with a statement that it would still be several years until the game's release, before going quiet for years.Liz Albl took to Twitter (as reported by Eurogamer) on Dec 7 to declare "the dream is real" as they revealed their new role as BioShock's Narrative Lead, taking over the franchise from BioShock’s creator Ken Levine, who helmed the first BioShock and the series third entry BioShock Infinite in the series but left the world behind with the closure of Irrational Games. Albl's other credits outside of Sucker Punch's aforementioned 2020 samurai adventure Ghost of Tsushima include several Ubisoft titles such as Watch Dogs Legion, Far Cry 4, and Far Cry 5, having joined the company as a Script Intern on 2013’s Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.Related: Ghost Of Tsushima 2 May Be In Development, According To Job Listing

BioShock 4 Is Rumored To Have An Antarctic Setting

Winter Blast Plasmid gameplay from Bioshock

Not much has been officially revealed by the developer about Cloud Chamber's upcoming BioShock title (rumored to be called BioShock Isolation), but in September this year, a huge BioShock leak revealed that it may take place in a fictional Antarctic city known as Borealis sometime during the 1960s. Whether this is closer to the events of the original BioShock in 1960 or BioShock 2 in the late 60s is yet to be seen, but the title is also now expected to have a story that connects back to BioShock's predecessors, rather than being a reboot as previously rumored.

Much like BioShock, which contained one of the most iconic twists in gaming, Ghost of Tsushima's storytelling was highly praised upon release. Inspired by classic samurai movies from filmmakers such as Akira Kurosawa, the title saw samurai Jin Sakai struggling with family and his Samurai code of honor as he deployed new ruthless tactics as the titular "Ghost" to desperately defend his land from a Mongol invasion. Ghost of Tsushima, much like BioShock, had multiple endings depending on what choice the player makes during its gut-wrenching conclusion.

According to past reports, Cloud Chamber has been given the latitude to take its time with the game, and the recent appointment of a Narrative Lead three years after BioShock's initial announcement indicates a release date for the game is still a way off. Given Albl's past work on Ghost of Tsushima, it looks like the franchise is in good hands.
