It's an old-fashioned notion that when Marvel's Universe becomes darkest, the heroes of the world will unite to return hope when needed most. And believe it or not, that is exactly what's happened in one of Marvel's darkest futures ever... with the birth of the Avengers of the Wastelands.

The new incarnation of Marvel's most iconic team of heroes has been revealed ahead of the company's full January solicitations, with Marvel offering the first cover art and details for the new Avengers. Set in the Wastelands made famous in the Old Man Logan comic series, in a future where the Avengers were murdered by an alliance of villains, a total lack of hope was once that future's defining characteristic. But that all changed in the last issue of Dead Man Logan, when Dani Cage, daughter of Luke and Jessica Jones, proved herself worthy. Apparently, ushering in a new age of heroes in the process.

The issue, for those who didn't read it, brought Dani moments away from death. Having joined forces with Logan to rescue Bruce Jr. (the last living descendant and embodiment of the original, non-evil Hulk), Dani took a bullet to the chest from one of Sabretooth's men. But as she fell to the ground dying, Mjolnir--having been left motionless ever since the death of heroes--fell at her side. She lifted it, and the Thor of the Wasteland was born. It seemed to be too massive a development for just one scene before Logan's death... and now, Marvel has confirmed Dani will lead Hulk and the new owner possessor of the Ant-Man technology in a new Avengers line-up. But in a world still run by villains, what chance do they really have?

Avengers of The Wasteland Comic

To find that out, fans will just need to read the series for themselves. The five-issue run will begin in January 2020, possibly delivering a closing chapter of hope to a timeline defined by hopelessness. Some fans will ask if Dead Man Logan will play a role (no matter how his life turns out), but that's just one of several questions we have after laying eyes on the cover art by Juan José Ryp. Until Issue #1 arrives, fans can check out the full credits and plot synopsis below:
