Here's what happened to Neville Longbottom after the Harry Potter series ended. Actor Matthew Lewis played the character in all eight movie installments, one of the few to appear from the beginning to the end. Since the series concluded, author J.K. Rowling has provided extra details into Neville's later life.
Neville Longbottom entered Hogwarts the same year as Harry, Ron, and Hermione. He was sorted into Gryffindor along with the trio despite his timidness and clumsy behavior. Neville remained a minor character throughout the first half of the Harry Potter series but he emerged as an integral piece to the narrative as the bigger picture became clear. Per the prophecy, he could have been the Chosen One has Voldemort picked his family instead of Harry's. But, even without destiny on his side, Neville became a hero, growing from a once shy student grew into one of the most courageous wizards in Hogwarts' history.
Neville was extremely loyal to Harry, especially after joining Dumbledore's Army. After Severus Snape took over as headmaster of Hogwarts during their seventh year, Neville continued to lead the rebellion within Hogwarts. Even when the student attendance started to dwindle, Neville kept the D.A. going, despite the danger. The preparedness greatly helped during the Battle of Hogwarts. As Voldemort and the Death Eaters ambushed the school, Neville summoned the fellow D.A. members and fought without fear. Neville's bravery allowed him to acquire Godric Gryffindor's sword, the weapon he used to slay Nagini, Voldemort's last Horcrux.
Following Voldemort's defeat and the end of the Second Wizarding War, Neville worked as an Auror as part of the wizarding world's defense system against practitioners of the Dark Arts. He later returned to Hogwarts and became the Herbology professor under Ponoma Sprout. Neville was a hero in the eyes of his students and he often shared his experiences as a member of Dumbledore's Army.
Neville went on to marry Hannah Abbott, a Hogwarts classmate and former member of Dumbledore's Army. For a time, the couple lived about the Leaky Cauldron where she worked as the landlady. The pair never had any children but they were presumably happy in life. Neville remained close with Harry, Ron, Hermione and the rest of the Dumbledore's Army members, to the point that Harry and Ginny eventually named Neville the godfather to their son, Albus Potter.
J.K. Rowling considered Neville as one of her "Big Seven" along with Harry, Ron, Hermione, Draco, Ginny, and Luna. It was important that she gave insight into his fate since he became such a fan-favorite character. It's surprising that he didn't start a family in his adult life, but the danger he endured during his childhood might have made him worry about bringing a child into the world. It's likely that Neville wanted to use his role as a professor to influence the younger generation. After all he went through in Harry Potter, he surely deserved a happy ending.
