Here's what viewers can expect from Never Have I Ever season 2 including its renewal status, possible release date, and story details. The coming-of-age comedy was developed by Mindy Kaling along with Lang Fisher (The Mindy Project) and is loosely based on Kaling's upbringing as a first-generation Indian American teenager. The new Netflix series, which is getting a ton of great buzz, stars newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan in the lead role.

Never Have I Ever is set in present-day California and follows Devi Vishwakumar (Ramakrishnan), an incoming sophomore at Sherman Oaks High. When the series begins, Devi is praying to the Hindu gods that she will finally acquire a good-looking boyfriend and have the chance at finally attending high school parties. She considers herself an all-American teen, but her reputation as a nerd doesn't help her social status. It also doesn't help that her father Mohan (Sendhil Ramamurthy) recently died, and the trauma caused her to become paralyzed for a brief time. Devi attempts to avoid the grief by transforming herself but ends up fracturing her relationships with her friends and family, especially her mother, Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan).

The Netflix series inspired by Kaling's early life brings a lot of laughs, but it also contains several deeply emotional subplots. The dynamic between Devi and her classmates like Ben (Jaren Lewison), Paxton (Darren Barnet), Eleanor (Ramona Young), and Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez) takes focus, but her relationship with her family is even more compelling. Viewers will certainly be hoping for a follow-up installment, and here's what they can expect from Never Have I Ever season 2.

Netflix has yet to announce plans for Never Have I Ever season 2. Kaling and the rest of the crew behind the series also haven't stated how long they envision the story lasting. Seeing as it's an original story, Netflix probably wants to see the show's reception and ratings. Normally, the streaming service makes a decision to renew about a month or two after the show drops. Viewers should be on the lookout for a decision in late May or early June. Considering the critical acclaim that the series is receiving, the future of Never Have I Ever looks bright.

Never Have I Ever Season 2 Release Date

Never Have I Ever debuted on Netflix in late April 2020. Typically, the streaming service has a one-year turnaround time for new seasons when it comes to half-hour series. The timetable could be a little different due to the current coronavirus-related shutdowns. Scheduling and decision-making on the fate of shows might not be a priority at the moment. Even if Never Have I Ever season 2 gets the green light, production could be delayed due to the domino effect of availability of those involved with the series. A spring 2021 release wouldn't be out of the question, but the summer months are also very plausible.

Never Have I Ever's debut season did an excellent job in introducing Devi and her eclectic group of friends and classmates. It also gave a view into a unique family situation, taking the story to a deeper level as Devi and her loved ones dealt with the death of Mohan. Devi may have won over her ultimate crush in Paxton, but more importantly, she came to terms with her grief. In doing so, she made a new connection with Ben and patched up the relationship with her mother. Season 2 will surely continue where the finale left off since there are still lingering questions regarding the Vishwakumar family's future. Nilani was mulling the decision to move the family to India while Devi had her sights set on colleges. In addition, Never Have I Ever season 2 has the chance to dive into the new love triangle between Devi, Ben, and Paxton.
