As Never Have I Ever creators explain why season 4 will be the last, fans are already praising the plot developments in the newly-released season 3. This season saw the return of beloved favorites like Devi and her clique of friends, a few characters earning more screen time like Trent, and the addition of a new face with Des. The season also covered a lot of ground, encompassing the end of Devi's sophomore year and her entire junior year in just ten episodes.

With so much ground covered, it's no surprise that some of the characters went on massive character journeys, becoming better people than they were in the first two seasons. Devi, for one, matured tremendously this season, dealing with her grief and also not needing to apologize every episode. However, not everyone received a grand character arc during season 3.

DesDes in Never Have I Ever

Des was the newest face to the Never Have I Ever world. While he starts out as an inconvenience for Devi, she quickly realizes she has feelings for him, and the two actually date in public since Devi's mom approves of Des in her life.

Unfortunately, Des isn't the boyfriend of Devi's dreams. Hailing from a privileged background, Des doesn't know how to connect with Devi on a deeper level and doesn't ever try. He never asks her about her past trauma, and when his mom suggests he break up with her because of it, he doesn't fight back. Des feels like Paxton circa season 1, and it's not a good look or a good character arc for him.

Aneesanever have I ever aneesa season 3

After being the new girl in season 2, Aneesa has found herself as part of Devi's clique despite still dating Ben at the start of season 3. However, things change fast for Aneesa, and she ends up breaking up with Ben and then starts to date Fabiola. Despite her relationship drama, Aneesa spends much of season 3 in the shadows.

While fans appreciated Aneesa standing up for herself and calling out Ben for being a condescending boyfriend, none of this was new for Aneesa, who has always been vocal and confident in herself. But, it was hard to give her a clear arc since so much of her screen time was spent in relationships. Unfortunately, it seems that will continue to be Aneesa's arc since, at the end of the season, she talks about wanting to date a jock.

Fabiola

Fabiola had one of the best character arcs in Never Have I Ever season 2, but that did not carry over to this season. At the beginning of the season, she's in a long-distance relationship with Eve who she ends up calling off because it's affecting her sleep schedule and her schoolwork. She then begins a relationship with Aneesa before jumping right into someone new with Addison.

In the past, Fabiola's arc has been all about her embracing her sexuality and finding a place where she belongs, but season 3 abandoned that mentality and made it entirely about short-lived relationships. While it was nice to see Fabiola have options, fans wanted more than just relationship drama for her.

Eleanor

Eleanor's character arc is a bit muddy this season, and she really doesn't change all that much. At the beginning, she is still the self-obsessed actress fans have come to know. She also feels weird about her relationship with Trent and plans to use him to land her first acting job.

By the end of the season, Eleanor is still as self-obsessed as ever before. In fact, she celebrates the fact that Trent has to repeat his senior year because it means she'll get to spend more time with him. Eleanor continued thinking of herself means she hasn't changed quite as much as some of the other characters this season.

Bennever have I ever ben

Ben hasn't always been one of the most likable Never Have I Ever characters, but he has always had a good character arc. Unfortunately, Ben fans found themselves in new territory this season since Ben's arc wasn't as strong as it could have been. After going through his break up with Aneesa, Ben falls into old habits of lashing out at those around him and speaking down to almost everyone.

However, Ben does get a bit of redemption in his one-off episode, where he bonds with Paxton after having a breakdown because of his intense school coursework. Fans appreciated seeing a deeper side to Ben but would have loved his arc more if he didn't regress into old ways at the top of the season.

TrentTrent from Never Have I Ever

When Never Have I Ever first premiered, Trent had a few great quotes and was mostly there for comedic relief. However, this season, he got a proper arc as he learned how to be in a relationship with Eleanor and dealt with the reality of his changing relationship with Paxton.

Trent stayed funny throughout, but fans enjoyed digging deeper into his character. It's clear that he is loyal and wants the best for the people he cares about, which is why he ends up supporting Paxton's ASU decision even though he really doesn't want to lose his best friend.

Kamalanever have I ever kamala

While Kamala didn't have much screen time this season, she made do with the time she was given. After spending the first two seasons in relationships that she ended up breaking off because of her commitment issues, Kamala finally comes to terms with the fact that she doesn't want to be married yet.

She stands up for herself, moves out, and starts dating Manish, though some family members don't approve. These decisions show how much Kamala has grown since season 1. In addition, she doesn't break up with Manish at the end of season 3, which exemplifies her growth as a character.

Devinever have i ever devi season 3

After two seasons of Devi making endless bad decisions and having to apologize every episode, Devi has finally started to mature. She begins this season in a relationship with Paxton, which ends rather quickly. However, instead of lashing out at him or Haley, Devi turns inward and focuses on herself for once, which sets her up on a positive journey.

Devi's arc really soared this season in regards to her grief surrounding her father's death. Instead of lashing out, she leans into therapy and talks about her feelings. She even admits to feeling guilty about "forgetting" to be sad. Devi's openness and selflessness were a nice change to her character and proves how much she's grown in a short time.

Nalininever have I ever nalini

After two seasons of being one of Devi's strongest critics, Nalini finally rose to the occasion of being a fantastic mother. Though she and Devi have had their difference, this season saw Nalini be incredibly supportive of her daughter.

Despite the snarky comments that make her one of the funniest Never Have I Ever characters, Nalini lets go of some of her control and allows Devi to date Das. She's there for Devi when things go wrong, defending her fiercely, and encourages her daughter to attend a fancy boarding school for her senior year even though she doesn't want to let Devi go. However, it's her ability to let Devi be emotional and support her that truly made Nalini's character arc.

Paxton

Paxton has again proved he's more than just a pretty boy, jock-type character. After Devi calls him out for treating his past relationships poorly, Paxton steps up and publicly apologizes to all the girls he's wronged by ghosting them after hooking up. This change isn't just for show, though, because he continues being a better person to women even after he breaks up with Devi.

After realizing a relationship isn't everything, Paxton leans into his academics and turns his school career around positively enough to get into ASU. He also starts a friendship with Ben and continues to stay close to Devi, which is another testament to how much he has grown from the selfish, popularity-obsessed boy from season 1.
