Warning: This post contains spoilers for Never Have I Ever season 3Aneesa deserved more than what she got in Never Have I Ever season 3. Megan Suri’s Aneesa joined Never Have I Ever in season 2, a transfer student who left her old high school for a very specific reason. After a rough start, which saw Devi start a rumor about Aneesa’s (actually true) eating disorder, she and Devi eventually became friends. Aneesa settled in at Sherman Oaks High School, joined the soccer team, and even began dating Ben Gross, Devi’s ex-boyfriend and academic rival.

Never Have I Ever season 3 wasn’t smooth sailing for Aneesa. At the start of the season, Aneesa became highly aware of the fact that Ben was not paying attention to her; he was too distracted with what Devi was up to. What’s more, Aneesa felt like she was being condescended too often and felt that Ben didn’t like that they didn’t have everything in common. And so decided to break up with Ben. While it was a decision that made sense at the moment, it left Aneesa floating for a bit — that is, until she and Fabiola shared a kiss. However, their kiss made things awkward between them until they began to date, which made things even more strange and threw their relationship into turmoil before all was resolved. While Aneesa did have somewhat of a storyline in Never Have I Ever season 3, she got the short end of the stick in a lot of ways.

The show barely let her flourish in a relationship with Ben before they broke up, and Ben’s treatment of Aneesa was also not great. Aneesa’s romance with Fabiola was unexpected, but nice. It also had a lot of potential to blossom and develop both young women into season 4, but it was too short-lived, a blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things. While Fabiola got to move on, Aneesa’s feelings on the matter weren’t fully explored. She might have been okay with her girlfriend moving on so fast, but Aneesa deserved to share her thoughts and experiences with someone. To that end, it felt like Aneesa wasn’t wholly a part of Devi’s friend group throughout season 3. Sure, she was often seen sitting with them, but Never Have I Ever remained focused on Devi, Eleanor, and Fabiola as a trio, leaving Aneesa a bit on the sidelines for much of season 3. Plus, Devi and Aneesa didn’t get to interact much one-on-one (if at all), so it felt like Aneesa wasn’t fully integrated into that particular friendship.

Aneesa Could Have A Better Story In Never Have I Ever Season 4

Aneesa leans forward in her seat in Never Have I Ever season 3

Aneesa was a bit short-changed in Never Have I Ever season 3, but the writers can turn that around in season 4. With it being the fourth and final season, Aneesa deserves more screen time to explore her life and relationships. Things might have been awkward with Fabiola, but that doesn’t mean Aneesa should give up on finding love with someone else. It’s possible the comedy series will introduce a new character for Aneesa to date in Never Have I Ever season 4. She could also spend more time with Devi, Eleanor, and Fabiola, perhaps sharing with them about her love life in the same way they share with each other.

Aneesa has been through a lot. Considering her stories didn’t live up to their full potential in Never Have I Ever season 3, season 4 can give Aneesa a more in-depth and fulfilling storyline. There is still much to explore in terms of Aneesa’s history, friendships, and romances. Season 4 is an opportunity to enrich her character and connections with others. Never Have I Ever’s final season would be all the better for it.
